5 Reasons Richard Burke From "Friends" Is Underappreciated
Buzzfeed

We all know arguably the most lovable and funny sitcom of the late 90s-early 2000s, "Friends." It brought tons of laughs, a few tears, and definitely some heartwarming moments into millions of homes, and now, millions of laptop screens. During the show's ten-season run, there were quite a few characters with guests appearances throughout the seasons, one of which is probably the true love of my life: Tom Selleck, who portrays Dr. Richard Burke on the show.

Richard Burke is Monica's eye doctor and is quite a few years her senior, but that doesn't stop them from pursuing each other in, in my opinion, the best relationship on the show. Now, I know that Mondler (Chandler and Monica) is probably the fan-favorite couple, but let me give you a few reasons we should all be rewatching the episodes with the swoon-worthy doctor in them.

1. Richard Burke is an eye doctor who travels the world helping the less fortunate get medical care.

I mean come ON, if that kind of man doesn't melt your heart right away then I think you need to look inward at yourself and wonder who you actually are attracted to. He's a pretty wealthy doctor who helps his clients as well as people who don't even have regular access to proper medical care: what a guy! All while keeping that mustache perfectly kempt.

2. He is the perfect gentleman with a great sense of humor, too.

Richard Burke can be wearing a full tux and crack jokes all night that aren't snore-worthy. The way he makes Monica laugh is priceless, and is usually not insulting to literally everyone else around him *cough*Chandler *cough*.

3. He is always looking out for Monica's happiness, no matter what.

Throughout their relationship, and even when they're not together, all Richard does is care for Monica. Even when he doesn't necessarily want things for himself, because she wanted them he was willing to do them, like have children. He helps Chandler get her in the end (spoilers) because he knows that she will be happier with a younger man and that Chandler will provide for her.

4. He's always so honest.

Richard came into Monica's workplace before she was engaged to Chandler and told her flat out that he was still in love with her. He was brave enough to open himself up and be vulnerable to someone who he had put everything on the line for. He's always been an open book and is so accepting of who Monica was. Even when she was being a little high-maintenance, it was nothing that Richard couldn't or didn't want to handle, and he did it lovingly. Whatta guy.

5. The mustache. Need I even say more?

Let's just have some appreciation for the Selleck 'Stache.

If you can still resist the draw, then I give you major props.

All in all, I think Dr. Richard Burke was seriously the best guy in any season of "Friends," and I wish I could write a 20-page essay on the matter, but I'd rather you go and see for yourself.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
