4 Reasons Why JMU is the Best College

In This Article:

Located in the rolling hills of the Shenandoah Valley, the school named after the fourth President of the United States is home to some of the happiest college students across the country. Although JMU may not be known very well nationally, those who do know us speak very highly of this college.

When I first entered JMU as a freshman, I didn't know what to expect; I barely knew anything about the school, other than my dad's stories about his years here. As the last two and a half years have gone by, I have become so fond of this place, somewhere that I am happy to call my home.

Here are my top four reasons why JMU is the best college:

1. The food.

If you know anything about JMU, you probably know that we have great food. Ranked nationally amongst all college campuses for our food, JMU serves up any meal you may be craving. Whether it be a bruschetta flatbread from SSC, or the Chinese food at Festival, JMU offers countless options to fill your belly. Students find it hard to resist the temptations when you're here at JMU.

2. The views.

There's many spots around Harrisonburg to capture the great views of the Shenandoah Valley. Along with the views comes many hiking spots in the area, making our school even more appealing. Walking around campus and trying not to take in the incredible views is hard to do, as each new spot you explore you may discover a breathtaking mountain view.

3. The Community.

JMU has an unspoken rule- we hold doors for each other. It may sound small and irrelevant, but it creates a friendly environment on campus in a place where the sense of community is valued by every student and faculty member. Even the residents of Harrisonburg follow the JMU policies, and are more than welcoming to all students and truly make them feel like part of the community. Purple and gold flood throughout the Quad, where anyone here can interact with each other and bond over the happiest place on Earth.

4. The Love for JMU.

You know if someone goes to JMU because they embrace the spirit that the school is known for. Whenever you meet someone from JMU, their face immediately fills with excitement and passion to talk about their time here. It's almost impossible to find someone who goes to this school who doesn't have a deep love for it. That sense of belonging hits you as soon as you step foot on campus.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
