"It's all here" ... or is it?

4 Problems With Montclair State University

Montclair State University is one of the best universities in New Jersey, possibly even the country. But, just like any other college or university it has it’s problems. Despite its motto “It’s All Here,” it really is not “all here.” Here are a few of the main problems at Montclair State University.

1. Food

For the amount we pay for our dining plans, you would think they could make something edible. The food at Sam's and Freeman's is awful and the choices elsewhere are not good for you. Most college students gain an insane amount of weight their freshman year trying to find edible food on campus. As a Montclair State student we usually head to the student center to avoid Sam’s and Freeman’s. We eat Panda Express and California Tortilla like it’s going out of style. We order food often and it’s never good for us. If only Montclair’s food options were better for us and better tasting.

2. Overcrowding

Montclair State has some of the nicest dorms. But, for the amount we pay to live in them we should expect a little room to breathe. Montclair’s dorms are not big enough to be holding three students in a room, but they do it anyway. Luckily the rooms in the heights have not been turned into triples yet too. Bohn and Blanton’s rooms are extremely small and not safe to be holding three students. Especially Bohn with it’s lack of air conditioning. Having three students living in a tiny cinderblock room without air conditioning and a window that barely opens enough to catch a breeze is just inhumane. But, “it’s all here,” right?

3. Technology

For the amount of students at Montclair State, you would think they would have better technology. The wifi barely works. The library lets you borrow laptops, but only during certain hours and for a certain amount of time, that is not helpful when you need to finish a paper by pulling an all nighter. Most of the printers in the student center do not work and you could die waiting to use a computer in University Hall. Some classrooms still have blackboards and need to be updated.

4. Parking

While I am not a commuter myself, the horror stories I have heard from friends about parking are too much to bear. Montclair State University is mainly a commuter school, and they are not equipped for it. There are not enough parking spaces for commuters so they started taking away parking spots from the residents. Commuters get to campus hours early just to find parking, and they still are late to class. This is probably the worst part of Montclair State University and it needs to be addressed.

Yes, there is only four things on my list. Montclair State University has it’s problems just like any other college or university. But, that is to be expected. Most schools would have a longer list than this. But, Montclair State’s list can not get any longer. The school is too amazing for that.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
