So you're planning your wedding, and it seems like everyone is coming to you with ideas and a lot of "You should do this" or "At my wedding we did this." While these are all great ideas - moms, aunts, grandparents - they may be a bit out of style or dated.
1. Chair Covers
Ah, the good old chair cover - white, shiny, unpressed, and a tripping hazard. To be honest, how about we leave the chair cover back in 1987, where it belongs. Think about it, the extra charge you are willing to spend to cover a chair could be used, instead, to upgrade that chair! Chivari, anyone?
2. Head Table
How many members of your bridal party bring a date? Probably almost all of them, so why separate them? Not only is it awkward for the date to be at a table with your great uncle whom they don't know, but the head table is aesthetically unpleasing and dated. Why not have two feasting tables with plenty of room for all, or even mix everyone into guest tables. That way everyone is comfortable and enjoys themselves, and you get a sweetheart table to enjoy the company of your new spouse.
3. Matching Dresses
Brides, this isn't like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and these dresses are not always going to be a one size, shape, and style fits all. It's 2017, your bridesmaids do not have to be clones of each other. Personally, I love the look of mixed dresses in the same length and color family - it adds extra textures, dimension, and flare to the big day! If you are asking your girls to spend a pretty penny on a dress, it should be something they feel pretty in and can probably even wear again!
4. Jordan Almonds
Just, no. People, Jordan Almonds have got to go! Truly, I do not believe that anything dates a wedding more than that little mesh bag or paper box full of the ever-so-perfectly color coordinated Jordan Almonds. Your guests do not want Jordan Almonds; give the people what they want, koozies, mini champagne bottles, or even donate money to your favorite charity on behalf of a guest favor. Say no to Jordan Almonds.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by everyone's input, just take a breather. The past traditions and styles will always be there, it's time for you to set a new trend!
