Although Netflix has blessed all of our lives tremendously by providing us with our favorite TV shows and movies right at our fingertips, navigating through the hundreds of titles that the website has to offer is no easy task. There is an extreme art to television production which some writers and producers seem to have mastered to a tee. However, not all TV shows have the ability to connect with, and touch the hearts, of its viewers. Call me a softy, but I have had the pleasure of having a few of my heart strings wrenched by a number of quite skillfully written shows. Below, I have compiled a list of my absolute favorite television shows that Netflix has to offer.
1. That 70s Show
(IMDB page) Rated 8.1/10 stars
If you've never seen 'That '70s Show', you have no idea what you are missing! The sitcom was filmed in the late '90s and early 2000s but took place in the 1970s. 'That '70s Show' follows a hilarious group of stoner teenagers through and after high school. The group of quirky teen's favorite pass time (when they're not sitting in the circle, that is) is to menace with and play pranks on each other. This hilarious coming-of-agecomedy is filled with laughter and sarcasm; BUT, does occasionally feature some very emotional and real-life scenes, which every teenager and young adult can relate to.
2. The Office
(IMDB page) Rated 8.8/10 stars
The Office is by far one of my favorite shows. It is a documentary-style sitcom that follows an office of working people over the course of 9 seasons. It was filmed, and took place, during the years of 2005 to 2013. Everyday in the office is filled with ego clashes, harassment of some sort, and loads of dry humor. An entire office of adults work under Michael Scott, who is essentially an adult child. He has good intentions a lot of the time; but, his approach is almost always absolutely inappropriate. This leads to a lot of wonderfully scripted hilarious scenes. What I really love about 'The Office' is the sense of reality that exists within the members of the office. Even though the boss, and some of the employees, are completely detached from reality, there are some very normal people in the office that have to deal with the day-to-day occurrences that arise in their workplace. Maybe one reason why 'The Office' is such a hit is that it makes people feel better about all of the mayhem that they have to deal with at their own jobs!
3. The Wonder Years
(IMDB page) Rated 8.3/10 stars
'The Wonder Years' is a wondrous show. It was filmed in the late '80s and early '90s but took place in the '60s and '70s. The show features a middle-school aged boy, Kevin Arnold, and his small circle of friends. One really cool aspect about this coming-of-age sitcom is that adult Kevin narrates, and reflects upon, his experiences growing up during the given time period, which was an immense term of change. Each episode of 'The Wonder Years' contains a deep message about life which is attributed to adult Kevin's voiceover. It is a really valuable and eye-opening experience to witness a person recall his or her childhood—including all of the good and the bad.
4. Psych
(IMDB page) Rated 8.4/10 stars
'Psych' is another hilarious show; but, this one has a twist. Two best friends, Sean and Gus, work with the Santa Barbra Police Department to solve crimes. Sean is a truly gifted detective, due to his keen sense of observation. However, because he is not a qualified detective, Sean assumes the role of a psychic detectives. He credits all of his sleuth findings to completely fabricated psychic visions. The writers of this show do an incredible job creating episodes packed with unexpected plot-twists, absurdly amusing scenes, and outstanding storylines in general. Of course, there's also a little light shown into Sean and Gus' love lives to keep the audience returning for more and on their toes.
Watching any of these shows is a guaranteed good time filled with an abundance of joy, laughter, and disbelief. I hope you like my favorites from the selection that Netflix has to offer as much as I do!
