4 Movie Ideas for Valentine's Day
Seeking Alpha

How are you going to celebrate your Valentine's Day? How about dinner followed by movies on your favorite streaming channel? If you are like me, and have a partner that LOVES romance and comedy on the big screen (not), Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to play that card – “I would really love it if we could watch some of my favorite chick-flicks today – that would be the best Valentine’s Day present ever!” Play, set, match.

Cook something cool from a Tasty video, load up on the popcorn, hit the couch, and let Netflix take you away.

Looking for some good Valentine’s Day movie ideas? Here are my top 4 picks for Valentine’s Day, 2017:

1. "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"

The tale of Benjamin Barry, an advertising executive and Andie Anderson, a writer for a magazine. They meet in a bar after making interesting bets with co-workers related to making and breaking relationships. The story is filled with surprises and humor.

2. "Love Actually"

The setting is placed around Christmas time in London. The story follows eight individuals and takes place during the Christmas season in London. It’s a great story and explores relationships at all of their highs an lows - falling in love, companionship, affairs, and heartbreak. The characters’ experiences and moments are relatable to viewers of all ages.

3. "10 Things I Hate About You"

The fun, classic film follows the story of Bianca Stratford, a sophomore in high school, and her sister Katrina, a feminist who hates conventionality. Bianca is not allowed to date unless her sister has a date. A new student to Padua High, Cameron, is dying to take Bianca out. Knowing Mr. Stratford’s rules of dating for his girls, Cameron looks for someone to take Kat out.

4. "50 First Dates"

Veterinarian, Henry Roth, lives in Hawaii and enjoys the company of endless vacationing women with no strings attached until he meets Lucy Whitmore. Henry finally thinks he has met the girl of his dreams until the next day Lucy fails to recognize him. He then discovers that Lucy suffers from short-term memory loss. This discovery makes Henry even more motivated to make her fall in love with him all over again every single day. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are the stars of the film.

I recently read an article that talked about millennials and their obsession with Netflix. I asked 102 University of Iowa students (love social media survey tools!) if it was true. 98% of the students I reached said they had either a Netflix or Hulu account. 58% of them stream 0-5 hours per week, 34% watch 6-10 hours, and 6% watch 11 hours or more per week.

Why are millennials so hooked on Netflix? It’s super convenient. No huge cable bills. You can binge watch! You can watch it on your mobile device, your smart TV, and even your gaming counsels. The original programming is great and there are plenty of other great shows and movies available – and now you can download a lot of the programming to your devices!! Netflix has 83.1 million subscribers and is changing the very nature of “TV.”

For now, my focus turns to picking the best chick flicks to watch on Valentine’s Day, but I am counting the days for "Stranger Things" to come back on air!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
