Coffee is perhaps one of the most dominant drinks in a college student's life. If you were to ask a handful of college students if they drank coffee about half would probably say yes. Maybe you drink coffee because you stayed up all night studying for a big test; or maybe you had one too many shots of Tequila. Or maybe you're one of those rare students who take their coffee at 2AM in the middle of a study session. Whatever the case, many college students simply drink coffee because it gets them through the day. And then there are people like me. Students who have a cup of coffee every morning as they get ready, a cup when they go to class, and a cup for homework that night, and quite possibly a few in between. Hello readers! You can just call me Lorelai Gilmore.
Like Lorelai, my love of coffee doesn't quite compare to most people I know, and I've had it almost anyway you can imagine (except decaf. Seriously, why does that even exist). We all know that being in college, you get creative when you're in a bind. I've had coffee cold (not iced, very different), with peppermint which is great if you're into the rich flavor that coffee has to offer, with all the extras you could think to add, and with the exception of international coffees I've tried too many brands to count.
So how do you do it? How do you down five cups of coffee in less than two hours?
1. Coffee is ALWAYS the answer.
Whether it's a final, a hangover, an ex, or 5 o'clock traffic, coffee will make everything just a little bit better.
2. Coffee saves lives.
Maybe not your life, but the lives of your peers. And you never know when your coffee drinking just might save you from being the wonderfully honest person you are.
3. Coffee just tastes good.
It's bitter and sweet, and even with cream and sugar the calories are still less than a can of soda. My current favorite: Folgers with sugar and Coffeemate's Creamy Chocolate.
4. Coffee allows us to slow down.
Ok, I know this may seem silly because you're thinking, "people drink coffee so they can stay alert and on task and busy, busy, busy." While that's true in many cases the romantic in me says that this is not always the case. You can step into a busy coffee shop or make a cup at home or the office, and for maybe just 10 minutes all you do is enjoy your drink. Your mind can catch up with itself, your body slows down, and you relax a little. Your world may be falling apart but in those ten minutes you are not your crises, you are you.
