College, and life in general, are incredibly overwhelming at times. I have several Broadway song lyrics on my walls in my dorm room, and I see them every day. Some are funny, while others, like the ones below, are inspiration for me to keep going throughout the day and help me feel a little bit better about myself when I’m having a crappy day.

1. “I am the one thing in life I can control” Hamilton

As much as I wish I could control what other people say and do to or around me, I can’t. The only person I can control is me. While that fact may seem saddening at times, it is also a constant in my life that will never, ever, ever change. No matter what is going on around me, I can still control how I react to the situation.

2. "Still, you're not alone. No one is alone." Into the Woods.

College, and life in general, can be extremely lonely at times. My first few weeks at Lander were incredibly lonely. But I promise you, no matter how alone you feel, you are not alone. SOMEONE IS ON YOUR SIDE. There is always at least one person cheering you on and standing in your corner. You are never, ever alone.

3. "Minute by minute. That's how you win it." Newsies

You can’t focus on the future before you’ve focused on the present. Take things day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute, because after all, that’s how you win it. When you have so much homework that you don’t know how you’re going to finish it all, break it down into smaller pieces. Tackle that first piece. Finished that? Good job! Now move on to the next piece! It’s easier to manage when you break tasks down into smaller steps.

4. "Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise." Les Miserables

Everyone has a really, really, really sucky day every now and then. I had one just this week. But you know what? As Scarlett O’Hara says, “After all, tomorrow’s another day.” I know that when I have a bad day, I think that the day will never end and the nightmare day will go on forever, but it will eventually end, and tomorrow will be better. I promise.

We all have days where we feel completely and utterly overwhelmed and like a fish out of water, but it will get better, and I hope these song lyrics gave you some inspiration to keep going and to never give up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
