If you have recently found out that you are pregnant there’s probably a million different things going on in your head. One of the things you may be thinking about are the changes that will occur to your body throughout the pregnancy, and how you are going to dress for them. Worry not as we have put together everything you need to know about how to dress during pregnancy.

Establish your Maternity Wardrobe

Once you start showing, you will want to begin thinking about building your maternity wardrobe. You are going to want to go through your pre-pregnancy clothes to see what pieces you have that can carry you into the third trimester. Roomier tops, loose fitting dresses and open front cardigans and jackets are things that you probably already have in your wardrobe that will work through all stages of your pregnancy. Once you have determined what you already have on hand you can start shopping for maternity specific pieces.

Bottoms are going to be your priority especially as your bump starts to grow. Maternity jeans are a staple and a great place to start. Find a good quality pair that you can wear with the tops you already have in your wardrobe. A pair of work pants is also a must for any moms-to-be who have to work in a professional environment. Another thing you may want to have on hand as you progress is pregnancy shoes. They will help with arch support and are easy to get on and off, even into the third trimester.

Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to your friends who have been pregnant in the past. They may have some great pieces that they don’t intend to use again. Or you can always see if they are willing to let you borrow anything if they plan to become pregnant again. This is great option for those who don’t have a large budget to work with.

Consider Your Lifestyle

Pregnancy looks different for everyone. The type of wardrobe you will need will be largely dependent on your lifestyle. Your wardrobe is determined by your job, the types of events you attend, and the area you live. If you know that you will be spending time at the beach during your pregnancy, then you will want to consider swimwear. If you are an avid gym-goer, then you will want to invest in some workout clothes. Or if your office dress code is business professional then you will need some dresswear. You know yourself best so make sure that you have all your bases covered.

Additionally, the time of year and the environment that you live in will also influence the pieces you need to purchase. Since we are currently in the heat of the summer months, we are going to look at some of the best summer styles for a baby bump. However, keep in mind that ladies who are early in the pregnancy in the summer will be going through their third trimester in winter. So don’t go crazy with summer items if this is you.

Style Ideas

Here are some great ways to style your bump for any occasion this summer. All of these looks can be put together using some of your pre-pregnancy items and some special maternity items.

1. Running Errands: You’ll likely be doing a lot of running around as you get ready for your baby to arrive, so you will want a stylish look that doesn’t sacrifice comfort or functionality. Throw on some loose-fitting linen pants with an oversized tee or even a tank tucked in. Accessorize with some jewelry and a baseball cap to keep your hair back. Finish the look with a pair of sneakers for a fashion forward and comfortable style that you can spend the whole day in.

2. At the Office: For the pregnant ladies who will spend their pregnancy in professional dress, your work style will not deviate too much from the things you wore pre-pregnancy. While the look is similar, you are going to want to purchase maternity versions of the items you typically wear. Try a pair of maternity dress pants paired with a silk top. For the first couple trimesters you can get away with wearing your standard blazers. However, you may need a special maternity blazer when you get into the last few months. Don’t forget to swap your stiletto heels for heeled boots to help with discomfort.

3. Date Night: Ladies should invest in at least one nice maternity dress to wear out at night during their pregnancy. Find a dress that is well fitting and in a solid color. Pair it with jewelry and your most comfortable pair of heels.

4. Summer Vacay: If you plan to head somewhere tropical this summer, finding the perfect bathing suit and a couple flattering sundresses are a must. Pack a sunhat and some sandals that can be worn with each dress to complete the looks.

Follow these guidelines to help build your maternity wardrobe for this summer. Stay true to your personal style and pick out items that make you feel your best. Do this and you are sure to have the most stylish baby bump around!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
