Although they know we love them with our whole heart, sometimes its the little things that count the most.

1. A Letter

A hand-written anything is a rare thing to come by these days, so writing your bae, sweetie or honey; a love letter is one very frugal, but sincere gift. A letter can range from “Hey I think you’re (hot, pretty, beautiful, etc.)” to “I love you so much let’s be together forever”. It is one of the most genuine ways to let that special person know that you care enough for them to not buy an over-used generic card, but rather something very personal to them.

2. Home Spa Day

Another incredibly nice gift that is sure to have your Valentine loving on you with thankfulness, is a home spa day. This all inclusive spa day can consist of a warm bubble bath filled with roses, surrounded with candles and you cannot forget the glass of wine. Follow the bath up with a foot rub or a massage with some soothing lavender oil, especially since Valentine’s Day falls during the week this year. If you are feeling extravagant, do at-home facials with ingredients found in your fridge or mani-pedis done by your significant other. All of these things do not cost that much, but will show your Valentine how much you care by the effort that you put into this gift.

3. Home Theater

An at home movie night could be pretty nice too. You could make popcorn and get your significant other’s favorite candy or even make their favorite snack. Cozy up with your most comfortable blanket and put in either a new movie they’ve been wanting to get or an old favorite. This is normally a very thoughtful gift for a newer couple or the busy couple who never feels like the have time to watch a movie. So have fun with it- because you both can put on your favorite and most comfortable pjs and just relax and be with one another.

4. The Way to a Man’s Heart

I’ve heard so many times that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. This one takes the most skill, but doesn’t necessarily cost that much. This is a way you can really impress your Valentine with your skills as well. This can done by inviting them over for breakfast, for those that can’t cook more than eggs and toast, or for dinner for the experts. The dinner can be their favorite dish, a special dish to you both, or just a really nice meal that you actually know how to cook. You can even complete it with a chocolatey dessert. It is yet another way that by exerting a decent amount of effort you show that you care for them so much.

No matter whether you are a big spender or a frugal person showing your special someone how much you care should not be based on how much money you spent on them. It should be based on how thoughtful, personable, and caring the action or gift truly is.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
