Have you ever felt that your stomach hurt after blowing out a candle?

Now before you write off this article as something entitled or snobby there are actual health benefits in regards to candles.

First of all, I’m obsessed with candles. I will literally buy a candle from any store that sells them. I have drawers in my dresser dedicated to storing them and a drawer in my desk on campus I use to store more. It’s kinda a problem but one I am 100% ok with having.

It’s important to note I actually burn these candles as well and they’re not just for decoration (but two birds one stone, am I right). But, after some time I started to notice that after blowing out certain candles it felt like my stomach hurt??? Weird I know. I brushed it off as a coincidence but it kept happening.

Next thing you know I turn to trusted Google and it turns out, certain ingredients in candles actually cause you to feel discomfort when inhaling the air. People all over the country were complaining about their discomfort from certain candles.

Paraffin, my newfound enemy.

While I adore the scents and selection of Bath and Body Works, most of their candles contain paraffin which is just irritating, to be honest.

Yes, it is, unfortunately, true, the more expensive a candle is (usually) the more gentle it is.

But fear not college students, there are some great finds so you won't break the bank.

All you have to do is check the ingredient list on a candle. If it says paraffin, toss it out.

1. Target

I've bought a set of candles from Target (go Target!). They’re a subtle smell and don’t irritate at all. They have a line called Signature Soy and it comes in a variety of scents. I personally enjoy soft, warm scents.

2. Urban Outfitters

Candles from Urban Outfitters are also usually made from soy wax so you can guarantee you’ll just be enjoying your wonderfully smelling air from those, and I find them to be very concentrated in scent. They tend to carry a unique type of scents for all you hipsters out there. Plus, these come in an artsy tin.

3. Voluspa

Then you’ve got your Voluspa candles, another favorite, more great smells, & still will not break your bank (especially if you buy them in the sets that come out during the holidays).

4. Diptque

Then comes my all time favorite, Diptque. Oh man, how I love these candles. The scents it comes in are divine and they’re just perfect. The packaging is perfect, the concentration is perfect, the burn time is perfect. The only thing not so perfect is the price. You’ll be out about $70 for this candle but honestly, treat yo self right??

This is just a short suggestion but there are honestly hundreds of brands that make their candles from soy wax. No matter what your price point is, you'll be able to find a candle that suits your needs health and scent wise.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
