4 Books that all College Students Should Read

Let's be honest here...how many people actually read books after high school unless they are required for a college class? Not many. Actually, even if it is required a lot of students still don't bother reading it. Being someone who loves reading as much as I love writing, it's something that I want to prove is important and can so easily change your viewpoints and perspectives in so many different ways. Because of this, I give you 4 books that all college students should read no matter who you are:

1. Tuesdays with Morrie- Mitch Albom

A story about a man who gets back in contact with his old college professor, Morrie, after learning that he is sick and dying of ALS. He goes and visits Morrie every Tuesday, which turns into one final class with lessons on how to live.

2. Killers of the Flower Moon- David Grann

This one is great for anyone who loves non-fiction. It is a story about a true murder mystery back in the 1920's. More and more members of the Osage tribe were being mysteriously murdered and no one could figure out who was doing it. In fact, many of the people who attempted to investigate the murders were also murdered themselves. This ended up being the FBI's first major homicide case.

3. The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo- Amy Schumer

This one will probably be more interesting to college girls rather than college guys but I still thought it deserved to be on this list. Amy Schumer tells stories about her teenage years, her family, her relationships, her current fame and success, and everything about what made her who she is today. This one is both hilarious to read and also truly inspiring for those who like to stand up for what they believe in and follow their dreams.

4. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck- Mark Manson

I truly believe that this is one book that everyone must read at some point in their lives. Obviously, you have to be able to handle some foul language in order to read this book...but if you can get past the language, the message this book sends is much more important. Manson does a brilliant job at teaching us what is really important in life and what's not. It's not so much about not caring about anything at all, as it is about learning what's important enough to put all of your energy into and how to not let the little things impact your life so much.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
