The 4 Best Beach Reads For Summer 2016

Summer is known for outdoor activities - swimming, hiking, tanning, you name it. One of my favorite things to do during hot summer days is go to the beach. In between jumping waves, it's nice to unwind with some light reading material. Here are some of my all time favorites that will hopefully become your all time favorites. I'll try not to spoil anything.

1. "A Walk To Remember" by Nicholas Sparks

If you claim you read this novel and did not shed a single tear, you surely have to be lying. I read this in three days during my freshman year of high school, and it has stuck with me. This is about a guy and a girl from two completely different walks of life who manage to fall in love despite how different they are. However, due to some health issues for one of them, it is hard. If you like romance, this is definitely a perfect book for you. My other Nicholas Sparks favorites are "Safe Haven" and "The Guardian." I could never choose between any of them!

2. "Just Listen" by Sarah Dessen

This is my favorite Sarah Dessen novel along with "Someone Like You." "Just Listen" is about a high school girl who models and seems like she has the perfect life - however, it is far from perfect. She is miserable partially because she hates modeling, but never speaks up. She then meets a guy who helps her realize that she has to stand up for herself and always tell people how she truly feels, not only with modeling, but with every aspect of her life. It's hard to be honest, even with yourself. And, although it is hard to do, it's worth it in the end. The storyline is unique and the romance was cute. It even tackled major life issues, such as eating disorders, with poise.

3. "White Girl Problems" by Babe Walker

This book is laugh out loud hysterical. It revolves around a high-class girl who ends up going to rehab for a shopping addiction, and the book chronicles how she ended up in rehab. The situations she ends up in are completely unimaginable because they're so ridiculous, but that's what makes a great book. If you're looking for a laugh, I guarantee this will satisfy you! There's also a sequel called "Psychos: A White Girl Problems Book."

4. "Wherever Nina Lies" by Lynn Weingarten

I read this when it first came out in 2009 and have been dying to read it again. Ellie's older sister Nina went missing two years ago and Ellie is still determined to find out where she is. After Ellie sees a drawing her sister made and a phone number, she begins to really hunt her down. With the help of Sean, a seemingly goodhearted guy, they take a road trip to find Nina. There ends up being a huge plot twist full of deceit, adventure and love.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
