With spring semester just around the corner and students returning back to school, the year of 2017 is full of new beginnings! It's only fitting to highlight a few of those exciting beginnings in Good ole 'Lene!

1. Raising Canes

Where: Off of I-20 on Hwy 351 - Across from Cracker Barrel near Walmart

When: No confirmed date yet - Assumed by Summer

Most Texans instantly know the name 'Raising Canes.' You know.. That restaurant with the southern style chicken and killer sauce? Well, we no longer have to drive to Lubbock or Dallas to get your Canes, but just wait until we get one of our in a matter of months!

They are currently hiring different positions, so if you are looking applying here is a link! : http://www.caniaccareers.com/featured_careers.cfm

2. Tea2Go

Where: 1158 E North 10th St - Next to Papa Murphy's near United Supermarkets

When: No confirmed date yet - Assumed by Summer

While Abilene does have this popular tea shop on the south side of town, the North side neglected to add one until just recently. While most articles online fail to mention this new addition, the franchise is clearly renovating the old Laundromat on E North 10th ( seen below ).

Feel free to drive by yourself to see the work in process! While there is not a set opening date yet, the quick progress can imply a grand opening pretty soon!

3. Chipotle

Where: 3800 S Clack St - Next to Arby's and iHop near Target

When: Confirmed by First Quarter of the Year

Chipotle, another Texas favorite, has won over the hearts of many, and pretty soon Abilene will have its chance at this popular Mexican Grill chain. Ir will take the place of the old CitiBank building by Arby's on the Southside of town (seen below).

Chipotle has confirmed that we can expect an opening by the end of March! They are also already hiring, so check out their job application page here if you're interested! : https://jobs.chipotle.com/job/abilene/new-restaurant-opening-soon-hiring-all-positions/282/3608557

4. Cinemark Movie Theater

Where: Off of I-20 and E. Overland Trail - by Northside Buffalo Wild Wings

When: No exact date but definitely confirmed by Spring 2017

Perhaps one of the most exciting developments in Abilene is construction of a state-of-the-art cinema on the North side of town down the road from BWW's. This theater will be modeled after a theater in La Quinta, California ( pictured above ).

Hold on to your shoes, ladies and gents, because this theater comes equipped with 12 screens, reclining lounge chairs with foot-rests, a cafeteria-like concession area, and the ability to reserve seats. Yeah, its intense. And cinemark has guaranteed it to be opened in the Spring of 2017.

There you have it, folks, a few things coming to Abilene that are definitely worth looking out for! So stay tuned in the media for updated opening dates as well as more info on upcoming projects! Have a great year!

two women enjoying confetti

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
