365 Day Poetry Goal: Week 28
Julian Wynn Smith

This post is covering week 28.

I'm sorry I've been so behind with posting my poetry lately. However, I have not given up and I will be able to get back to this. However, I will be only posting the poetry without a description (unless it's required) due to time constraints. Be aware, many of the poems I will be posting will be quite depressing. Forgive me for that.

As usual, for those of you who do not know why I am doing this, I will quote my first article here:

“I have realized that a great way to keep sane when you’re busy (especially with very tedious work) is to keep your creativity flowing. So recently, I have decided to start a sort of creative goal for myself. I’m going to write 365 poems. That is one every day without stopping. This is all free form and off the cuff. So if it’s short, long, good, and/or crap, that is up for you to decide.”

Please enjoy.

Life doesn't hold you by the hand; it'll take you for granted. Find someone you can talk to, because it's hard when you're alone. Don't ruin a great thing before you recognize it. It's always there right in front of you.

Resilience

Can you just bullshit your way through?
Isn't it already enough, that it's eating away at you?
Just hold on to the rail and know it's true
Life moves on

You can eat as much or as little as you want
Become a dunce or an extraordinary savant
Carrying yourself oh so nonchalant
To look strong

A smile can turn on you in so many ways
The truth is always there, in your gaze
The mirrors you avoid to not see the days
Which are too long

You're younger than you think you are
You're stronger than your past scars
Less mature than you were from the start
Covering what's wrong

Can you just bullshit your way through?
Isn't it already enough, that it's eating away at you?
Just hold on to the rail and know it's true
Life moves on

Cover The Dirt

It’s best to not try
Because all it does is hurt
They’re out for their hide
Not how much you’re worth
Sentimentality is just a lie
Just to keep your perch
Through the mess of sighs
Just to cover the dirt

Brains that have gone inert
When will they ever learn?
Internally an introvert
Nothing that they could discern
When will they ever learn?
That we both read the same words
Out of the books that they burn
I never meant any harm
Minding my own is so hard
When they pull up in their cars
Showing off all of their scars
The truth behind the liars
Whatever gives them their desires
Like pulling teeth with plyers
Lost behind cloth of fire
Why do their eyes look so tired?

It’s best to not try
Because all it does is hurt
They’re out for their hide
Not how much you’re worth
Sentimentality is just a lie
Just to keep your perch
Through the mess of sighs
Just to cover the dirt

Once they pulled out the switch
I knew that this was it
Missing the words that they spit
Their souls looked so decrepit
Cold as ice, yet ready to twitch
I ran for the pit, I didn’t give a shit
Got the switch cutting my fists
Can’t understand why they are so pissed
At this young kid, their same age
Living like a bird in a cage
Didn’t have the time to live a real day
Or even make minimum wage
A life can flash in two ways
The past or the future that persuades
The present only gave him the game
And society always shifts the blame

It’s best to not try
Because all it does is hurt
They’re out for their hide
Not how much you’re worth
Sentimentality is just a lie
Just to keep your perch
Through the mess of sighs
Just to cover the dirt

Musical Passion

It takes me places I couldn't even imagine
Put it on and transfix on the auditory clashing
For your first timers may need a caption
Because the flow and rhyme is always blasting

Turn up the volume to envelope me
From the chromatic scale and everything in between
To the darkest of depths to love that shines brightly
Every combination just fills me with glee

Entertaining the intricacies in all the details
High fidelity produced perfectly for retail
It's a journey hidden in a wordless tale
A vacation of elation without fail

Seeping into the roots of my core
I am one with the earth as I stand on the floor
The more that I find the more that I'm sure
That music has been in my life before

It's a part my soul, a part of my being
I share it with everyone that I'm seeing
Because passion is not limited to a feeling
Inspire others by sharing your true meaning

Look For Someone Else

I don't understand
Time doesn't always mend what's broken
Left me to comprehend
You can't act like you were chosen
Decisions made offhand
That completely disregard my notions
No matter where the punches land
I'm on the path that takes me off the ocean

When your cover is blown
Barricaded like an autocrat
You seem so alone
I tend to be privy to that
Trying to change your tone
Would create never ending combat
A year is much too long
To rekindle this aftermath

I'm willing to be on your side
I know your pain
The kind that you always hide
When everything's the same
You honestly do try
To remain sane and refrain
From your baneful parasite
Of your narcissistic gains

Do you understand what's wrong?
Do you understand what's right?
Every day that you prolong
Your egocentric trite
Do you understand what's wrong?
Do you understand what's right?
Just end your swan song
Look for someone else who might

Adrenaline Junkie

Driving a million miles a minute
On a lengthy closed circuit
Trash littering the streets
With no exit in sight
I've seen the same streets for weeks
Memorizing when to turn left or right

But I know this place isn't right
When change never puts up a fight
The dust that settles behind me
Is not really so clear
In my rear view mirror I see
The culmination of my fears

As the engine begins to grind its gears
And I lose the ability to steer
Momentum takes over again
Since it is only natural
As I fall into a tailspin
This is the real spectacle

The muddled sounds of twisted metal
And burnt rubber smells so terrible
I never would have seen it coming
The mirror just caught my eye
My engine wouldn’t be running
I wouldn’t exist tonight

I see the car just pass me by
If I said I was calm, that’d be a lie
I jitter and sweat in my seat
I seem to be out of breath
Tomorrow’s a new day I will see
And I have only one lap left…

A Mess to Comprehend

Were you thinking of me?
In the past tense I'm sure
Or Is that my jealousy
Always bursting forth?
Pale in reluctancy
Paved with redundancy

I'll go where you are
If you want to talk
And want to restart
The board full of chalk
Full of lines split apart
Most turn pain into an art

It's all relative in the end
Love and hate are synonymous
No words can transcend
Woeful times to reminisce
Just know my back doesn't bend
Any more than this
And I cannot comprehend
Anyone's silent wish

I'm just overthinking
To my made up conclusions
Made from your teachings
Of grandiose delusions
We both see the same thing
Like the bomb that's ticking

I'll go where you are
If you want to talk
And with a canvas of tar
We'll pave where we walk
Fracturing the heart
Most turn pain into an art

It's all relative in the end
Love and hate are synonymous
No words can transcend
Woeful times to reminisce
Just know your back doesn't bend
Any more than this
And you cannot comprehend
Anyone's silent wish

Like and Echo

The more he does
The more he sees
The more he is who he doesn't want to be
The more he tries
The more he glides
The more people ignore his lies
He's less unique
The less he thinks
Just to be a part of the chain link
The more he's there
The less he cares
Like an echo that disappears

No one listens
To his vision
They find no interest in his decisions
His kind of fun
Is shared by no one
He doesn't care for that nightlife buzz
He copies fashion
He's lost his passion
His presence doesn't give off a good reaction
The more he's there
The less he cares
Like an echo that disappears

He is too far gone
Inside on the run
Fragmented sentences. Never done
Always taking the back seat
Never making any leaps
Fearing rejection by everyone he meets
A half and half mess
In the crowds he detests
He feels he is becoming less and less
The more he's there
The less he cares
Like an echo that disappears

An echo that disappears

Echo that disappears

That disappears

Disappears...

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Economic Benefits of Higher Wages

Nobody deserves to be living in poverty.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
