When I was growing up, being on the lake was always the activity of the day during the summer. I spent almost all of my summer days out there just being carefree and enjoying all that it had to offer. In honor of summer just creeping around the corner, I wanted to share 36 things that I thought would be relatable to all of my fellow lake lovers out there!

1. Always having a good tan

2. Along with that comes life jacket tans

3. Swimming in 30 degree water in March because you missed it that much

4. Fishing off the dock

5. Fishing early in the morning

6. Night fishing

7. Fishing pretty much at all hours of the day

8. It’s the only thing that you will wake up super early on Saturday to get ready for

9. Sitting in your parents lap to drive the boat

10. Actually learning how to drive the boat by yourself

11. And parking the boat for the first time was your greatest success

12. Wake Boarding, Skiing, etc. was your daily workout

13. Having a nicer sound system on the boat than in your car

14. Doing donuts on the Jet Ski trying to flip it over

15. Taking off on the jet ski beside the boat to try and splash it with the tail

16. Going 30 MPH while riding the tube to try and get thrown off

17. Seeing who can hold on the longest while riding the tube

18. Just tubing in general

19. Always having sunglass tan lines on your face

20. Forever losing sunglasses in the lake though

21. When you lose your favorite koosie in the lake, it’s a bad day

22. Going out to watch the sunset

23. Not wearing white swim suits in the lake

24. Because they always turn into red/brown swim suits after the fact

25. Always having to go get gas in the boat

26. But the marina has the best food and ice cream

27. Getting a new inner tube to ride on the lake is like your favorite gift ever

28. Having splash contest off the side of the dock

29. Going kayaking is always the best arm exercise

30. Always being on the lake for any holidays during the summer

31. The biggest one is always 4th of July though

32. Watching fireworks on the boat

33. Getting stuck in a storm on the boat

34. Jumping off a bridge into the lake

35. Creating your own rope swing to jump off of

36. Most importantly, making memories with your friends and family

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
