If you grew up in a small town that you consider to be one of those “blink and you miss it” kind of towns rather than a busy city with a graduating class of 100+ students these are some things that you know to be true.

1. Everyone knows your name

2. You will always run into someone you know if you leave your house

3.You will end up dating one of your friend's exes

4. Even if you didn’t know what you were doing someone else thought they did

5. Your parents would know what you did before you even got home

6. You’re more prepared to stop for deer than for traffic lights

7. The only time there is a traffic jam is when there’s a tractor on the road

8. Your teacher either taught your parents or is your parent

9. Getting a new student in school was big news

10. So many potholes

11. Only two restaurants in town to choose from and you know at least one person who works at each

12. Your graduating glass was only about 50 people

13. You are genuinely shocked when someone tells you they graduated in a class that was in the triple digit

14. You can name everyone in your graduating class

15. You also knew all the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors

16. You knew what FFA was and was most likely a member or knew someone who was

17. There was at least one guy at prom that incorporated camo into his tux

18. The gas station is where everyone hangs out at

19. Your high school parties were in either a field or a gravel pit

20. You’re used to making a 20 minute drive to the nearest grocery store

21. The nearest "nice" restaurant is also 20 minutes away

22. Walking around Walmart is one of the only few options for entertainment

23. People give directions by referring to the only stoplight in town

24. When people as you where you are from you name off the nearest well known town

25. You drive around at night blasting music with your friends because there is nothing else to do

26. You’re never a mile or so away from a farm

27. You more than likely grew your own vegetables and shot your own meat

28. You know at least one person who has stolen a road sign

29. Muddin’ is a regular occurrence

30. Y’all is a part of your daily vocabulary

31. You are guaranteed to see at least one lifted truck when you are out and about

32. There are more churches than restaurants and gas stations put together

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
