Ahh summer — a time for friends, family, and endless days of fun ... NOT for sweating, heat, and sunburns. So, if you're bearing the 110+ degree temperatures like myself (thanks, Arizona), or if you are just in need of a cool break, here are 35 great ways to beat the heat this summer. Who knows, you might even discover a new hobby or find a hidden gem of a locally owned business along the way?

1. See a movie

Because nothing beats chilly theaters and cherry ICEEs! OK, except maybe Studio Movie Grill's milkshakes -- yum!

2. Play indoor mini-golf.

As if mini golf weren't fun enough indoors, many mini courses feature neon lighting to spice things up!

3. Have a Netflix marathon.

Invest a few bucks for the perfect movie treats and beverages, set up the most glorious pillow/blanket arrangement, and make a plan of attack. The hardest question you can ask on these types of days are, "Movie? Or TV series?" And it would not be complete if you didn't pull the classic "Oh, no -- I ran out of time and it just autoplayed! I guess I'll have to watch another."

4. Go to an indoor shooting range.

What a way to release some of that heat frustration! Just make sure you know what you are doing. This is not a time for fake it 'til you make it.

5. Take a cooking class.

Many cooking classes will even rotate their menus to better fit summertime cravings! Fresh fruit, chilled drinks, and lots and lots of BBQ favorites.

6. Paint pottery.

Because, yes, this mug is worth $45 now that I have painted some failed design that looks nothing like what I imagined.

7. Grab an iced coffee or tea.

During the rest of the year, I typically treat my coffee runs as strictly business: get in and get out. But during the summer, coffeehouses are a great way to meet up with friends for an hour or two (for a small price too!)

8. Go to an indoor trampoline park.

If you ever are entertaining little kids and are looking for a way to burn off some of their energy, these places are a godsend.

9. Go laser tagging.

You are never too old for laser tagging. Plus, you never know who your friends truly are until you've taken them laser tagging -- all the true colors come out here.

10. Go bowling.

Classic! Honestly, this is always my favorite hobby of the summer. Be on the lookout for summer passes too -- great way to save money!

11. Go ice skating.

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Who wouldn't love Christmas in July?

12. Visit a space center.

Space centers are always a great way to spend the day. You're able to cool off and learn something new each time you visit!

13. Go to a comedy club.

When it's hitting summer peak temperatures, we all could use more laughs! Local comedy clubs are typically pretty inexpensive and it's a great outing for friends or family.

14. Take a group to Escape The Room.

I don't know if I'd call this relaxing indoors, but this is such a unique outing! Looks like Tina Fey made it out. Will you?

15. Go Go-Karting.

Another one of my favorites! It only counts as bumping if you get caught, right?

16. Go indoor paint balling.

Recruit your team and get out there! Choose your clothing wisely.

17. Go to a Murder Mystery dinner.

This may not be your typical dinner outing, but it's a great way to get out with a friend, group, or date! Summer is the best time for bucket lists and this one is definitely on mine.

18. Try a new restaurant.

Mix things up! Eating out is always a go-to indoor outing (ironic), but change things up! I highly suggest trying a local restaurant you've never been to. I'm always about supporting local businesses in general, as they feel so personal and special to you. Just think, there's nowhere else exactly like it.

19. Go to the gym.

Before you give me the "you're crazy" look, hear me out. You don't have to jump on the treadmill or hit the weights machines. I'm talking about the classes! If you have a membership, take advantage of those fun classes such as yoga or Zumba (my personal favorite). Some gyms even have indoor basketball courts and pools -- key word being "indoors."

20. Go read at a bookstore.

Sitting between the shelves or at the cafe while reading a book you may or may not buy? Sounds like a good couple of hours to me!

21. Get free samples at Costco.

How do you deny that? Look at her face!

22. Go to an ice cream parlor or frozen yogurt shop.

Mmm -- Is it really summer if you're not stopping off for ice cream or frozen yogurt?

23. Go to a baseball game.

If you can promise me a closed roof or shade, I will be there!

24. See a local band.

Tickets typically aren't too bad when seeing local bands perform and you might discover your next favorite artist!

25. Go to an arcade.

This is a great way to spend a few hours inside! Revisit some of the classics, engage in some healthy competition, and reap all the rewards of those 1,000 tickets you won on the jumbo wheel.

26. Take a dance class.

Whether it's at a country bar, a ballroom, or a jazz studio try something new by getting some dance lessons from the professionals! You'll thank me later.

27. Take an art class.

Who cares if your final product looks like a 5-year-old's finger painting? I believe that's what artists call abstract art. Yes, that's what you were going for.

29. Go to a batting cage.

You don't have to be a baseball stud or softball powerhouse to love the batting cages! Take some friends and see what you've got.

30. Go play Pokémon Go in a big mall.

Charge your phone, find the mall's wifi and get going! Lures on lures and PokeStops galore. This is what I call free fun!

31. Go rock climbing.

Another great way to test yourself and try new things this summer! There are so many activities people wish they could be doing outdoors but it is just too hot. Here's a way to get an athletic activity fix while staying indoors.

32. Have a game night.

When you feel the above activities have depleted your wallet, game night is there to save the day. Find a game your friends love and your night will be set. Apples to Apples, Cards Against Humanity, and Settlers of Catan have been my group's go-tos lately.

33. Go to TopGolf.

It may not be fully indoors, but the venue keeps the indoor portion cool and refreshing as you're playing.

34. Visit a museum.

You could spend hours exploring museums! Like space centers, there is always something to be learned while walking the halls of exhibits. These are always a great summer treat.

35. Go indoor sky diving.

And when you really feel like you want to get away, but you still have your reservations about leaping out of a plane (understandably so), you can visit an indoor sky diving location. Here you'll literally be swept off your feet by the much-needed cool breeze. Now this is how you beat the heat!

If you hail from the hellishly hot state of Arizona like myself, check out these local places to quench your thirst for indoor fun! Included in this list are some of my favorite spots around the city, as well as awesome locally owned businesses you can't find anywhere else than the Valley of the Sun itself. Happy venturing!

Arizona locations: Studio Movie Grill, Glow Putt, Shooter's World, Sweet Basil Gourmetware and Cooking School, As You Wish, Elevate Coffee Co., Jumpstreet, Stratum Laser Tag, Uptown Alley, Ice Den, Challenger Space Center, Jester'Z Improv, Escape The Room AZ, Octane Raceway, Westworld Paintball, The Dinner Detective, Char Pizzeria, Mountainside Fitness, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Costco Wholesale, Cold Stone Creamery, Chase Field, Marquee Theatre, Dave & Buster's, Phoenix Center for the Arts, Inside Pitch, Phoenix Rock Gym, Topgolf, Arizona Museum of Natural History, SkyVenture Arizona.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
