Living in a world where the news is full of terrorism and despair, we all need to do our part in giving back. Here's a list of random acts of kindness you can do today that can make the biggest change in someones day or even their life.

1. Pay for someones coffee or food in the drive thru or for the toll for the person behind you

2. Leave an overly generous tip for a server

3. Give compliments

4. Send a genuine and thoughtful text

5. Email a teacher or adult who's made a difference in your life

6. Surprise your friends with breakfast or coffee in bed

7. Leave sticky notes with a positive message for your roommate, friend, or even a stranger

8. Volunteer at church daycares, animals shelters, or anywhere you're interested in

9. Donate old clothes, electronics, money, or even your time to those in need

10. Genuinely listen to someone who needs talk

11. Call your grandparents or parents. They love hearing from you.

12. Say "good morning" and "goodnight"

13. Encourage anyone who's feeling down

14. Do the dishes, take out the trash, or clean the house even if it isn't your turn

15. Bring someone their favorite food/drink just because

16. Help an elderly person cross the road or help carry their groceries

17. Say "thank you"

19. Pick up a piece of trash off the ground instead of leaving it

20. Let someone over into your lane while your driving

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated.
