Middle school dances are often the prime example of an awkward event among pre-teens, but sometimes even high school dances suffer the same fate.

Depending on the kind of high school it is, the music can vary from one heavy other either techno or hip-hop, maybe with some line dances in between. High School dances require more effort than middle school ones, but even when people dress well during Prom Season, there will always be those instances of guys ripping their suit pants after a dance-off. There is a certain set of songs that are very familiar with being the kind of songs you will only hear in these dances, that it can bring back memories for a lot of young adults now. Looking back at the high school dances can be nostalgic as you hear a familiar tune as you listen to a Throwback Thursday playlist. It can bring back the time you killed it on the dance floor or possibly become the highlight of Prom Night. These tracks are what you will always hear at high school dances.

Some of these songs are still considered a banger now, while other tracks make you want to cringe about how popular they were. High school dances always provided a different variety of music genres to help please everybody. It's no surprised that not everybody is pleased with the dance playlist, which makes room for those attending the dance who think they're too cool to bust a move. Overall it is safe to say that just like middle school dances, high school dances are a hit or miss depending on the community among students. Sometimes people get sick of the music, while it can grow on your for the rest of your adulthood.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
