Forget everything regarding Team USA's woes, the most exciting team at the World Cup of Hockey is Team North America.
The 23 and under super-team has sparked the interest of hockey fans around the world. With a powerful blend of speed and youthful spirit, Team North America has also won a few hockey games. They beat Finland and Sweden, and took Russia down to the wire. Albeit young, these kids can play.
This team is exactly what the game of hockey needed. Along with the return to ESPN and the ultra-competitive play, the World Cup of Hockey has been a major success. For a game that sadly is overlooked in the United States, this is a thriving time for hockey fans.
Nothing from this tournament, however, has been more impactful than Team North America. The future of hockey is in safe hands with the wave of talent on this team. Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Auston Matthews are the headliners, but there are so many more good players on this team.
Nathan Mackinnon showcased his world class stickhandling with his overtime winner against Sweden. Seth Jones and Ryan Murray have cemented their status as building blocks in Columbus. John Gibson and Matt Murray have played solid in goal. Once again, Johnny Gaudreau is playing well in an international tournament (hint hint, Team USA).
Hockey fans: rejoice, the future is bright. Now more than ever before there is an abundance of talent.
