33 Things That Happen During Christmas Break

Christmas time is always a great time, but coming home is always an interesting experience after a semester away. It seems that no matter where you're from, or what your plans are for the holidays, there are a few inevitabilities that come along with being home for Christmas.

1. The credit card bills and bank statements get delivered home.

2. You hear about 24 hours worth of complaints about how much you spent over the fall.

3. You promise yourself not to go too crazy on cookies and junk food.

4. You end up eating more cookies and candy than you thought was humanly possible.

5. You promise yourself you'll work out at your local gym to make up for it.

6. Whatever Christmas movie is on TV at the time becomes your favorite movie of all time and going to the gym isn't worth missing out on it.

7. You see all of your old friends from high school.

8. At least one of them has gotten fat.

9. Another one hasn't changed at all since you last saw them.

10. Someone from your rival school can't shut up about the last football game you played (and lost) against them.

11. You accidentally spend at least one whole day doing nothing but watching Netflix.

12. Your final grades come out.

13. You hear about 24 hours worth of complaints about how you underperformed over the fall.

14. You accidentally spend at least three whole days doing nothing but watching Netflix.

15. At least once you hear the words, "Go get a job, or something."

16. There are a few days where you eat nothing but crackers and things in your pantry that may or may not have been stuck in there since the summer.

17. You promise yourself that you'll go Christmas shopping at least a week before Christmas.

18. You end up getting trampled in the mall on Christmas Eve with no presents bought, yet.

19. Hanging out at your friends' house gets old and you end up going out whenever you can.

20. Everything is more expensive at home than in college town.

21. More complaining about your spending habits.

22. You try to convince your parents to substitute Christmas gifts for debt-relief.

23. It doesn't work.

24. After months of getting pumped for Christmas music, you can't wait until normal music starts playing regularly again.

25. You're definitely not ready for Christmas when it comes around.

26. You're definitely not ready for New Year's Eve when it comes around.

27. Your New Year's plans don't get finalized until the day of.

28. You lose what feels like millions to your relatives and your buddies in bowl game bets.

29. Even more complaining about your spending habits.

30. You think at least once, "When can I go back to school again?"

31. You hear at least 10 times, "When can you go back to school again?"

32. By the end you feel it's only lasted two days.

33. Despite all of the lecturing, annoyances, boringness, craziness and everything in between, you can't wait for the next Christmas break to roll around.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
