Why your vote matters.

Huffington Post

Have you ever been so confused about what's going on around you that you take a step back and wait for it to be over? That's how I feel about the upcoming election. I am angered and frightened by the actions of both the presidential candidates and my fellow voters. In my opinion, the important issues have taken a back seat to name calling, harsh comments and tattling. What astounds me almost more than the behavior of the candidates is the behavior of the voters. For example, I was at dinner with my friend the other night, and politics came up. She informed me that some of her friends are not going to vote. Surprised, I believe the first words out of my mouth were something like "both Men AND Women fought and died so that we have the right to vote, and they are not going to do it? " Now that I have made that comment I realize that we have a choice in whether or not we can vote. However, I urge everyone to vote if you are of age. If you do decide to vote, it is important that you research the candidates before you make a decision. This is because their prospective policies will impact our children and future children. Even though I'm not crazy about politics, I understand that this is not a situation where I can take a step back and wait for it to be over. My future and yours is in the works now, and as I said before, this is an opportunity that many people have died to give us. This, like so many other things matter. Go out, and take charge of your future. As Abraham Lincoln Once said, " The best way to predict your future is to create it."

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
