With the new semester brings plenty of new challenges and adventures. Many people try to gather their thoughts and try to organize themselves for the semester ahead. Here are 31 thoughts everyone has the first week back to school:

1. I can't believe how fast winter break winter went.

2. Maybe I should check my Blackboard now...

3. This semester's looking rough.

4. Thank god, we have two Mondays off this month.

5. When's spring break?

6. How did I go to school at 7:30 every morning back in high school?

7. Ugh, I have to set an alarm clock.

8. I hope my textbooks aren't too expensive.

9. Was there always this many people in school?

10. Wow, I need a nap.

11. Why'd I sign up for a 9:45 a.m. class?

12. Why did I think taking a class at 8:25 p.m. was a good idea?

13. There's more students than seats in this class, how is that possible?

14. I'm gonna try to stay on top of all my work this semester.

15. Wow, this is a lot of homework for the first week. Do professors know it's syllabus week?

16. Should I even buy the textbooks?

17. Okay, on Rate My Professor this guy had a chili pepper and he's an old man, did I miss something?

18. I get you didn't see your friends over break but no need to stop in the middle of the hallway and scream.

19. There was an assignment due? It's only the second day.

20. How is it possible that I'm already behind?

21. I'll try to dress up and not look like I just rolled out of bed. *second day of class comes in actual pajamas*

22. Let me stalk all my professors on Facebook.

23. I can't wait until Friday so I can go out and forget about this week.

24. This honestly has to be the longest week in all of human history. I didn't think time could move this slowly.

25. How many more days are left in the semester?

26. Why is my professor already talking about our final project?

27. Is it even allowed for my professors to assign a 70 page reading due in two days?

28. Why is everyone walking so slow in the hallways? Oh my god.

28. Please don't make us work in groups.

29. Or introduce ourself to the class.

30. I need a fun fact about myself. What do I say?

31. This is going to be a long semester.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
