Halloween is one of the most fun holidays of the year because there is so much to do. To help you figure out exactly what you're ideal Halloween plans should be this year, I've compiled a list of my favorite tricks and treats.
1. Dress up (in a non-culture appropriating costume, of course).
I don't care how old you are, dressing up for Halloween is always fun.
For more information about culturally appropriated costumes, check out Chloe McGinley's article this week.
2. Have a costume party.
What better way to show off your snazzy Halloween costume than by making all of your friends hang out with you for a few hours?
3. Watch ABC Family's "13 Nights of Halloween"
This could also be during your costume party, so really you have three things already going for you.
Plus on Halloween, ABC Family has all of your actual favorite movies. Check out the list!
4. Prank your friends.
Traditionally I do this on Mischief Night (the night before Halloween) but it's also acceptable to do it on actual Halloween. Pranks could be as harmless as putting a fake rat in their bed! Anything goes! You could also set things up around your home to freak out any expectant party guests or your roommates.
5. Like this head-in-a-jar-prank:
6. Or this stranger at the end of the hallway.
7. Make fun Halloween treats.
Candy is great and all, but sometimes you need to get a little creative.
8. Like this adorable and simple snack.
9. Or for the more creative types...
10. Or just get a bunch of candy to eat, who am I to judge?
11. Get out-of-control with decorating.
Because it's all in the holiday spirit.
12. With funny cardboard tombstones.
13. Or this spider web that would actually be terrifying to run into in the middle of the night
14. Or you can use common household items to make decorations.
Last year my roommates and I collected the lonely single socks from our dorm's laundry room and made ghosts out of them.
15. Play with a Ouija board.
(Please don't do this. Messing with the spirit world can have serious consequences.)
16. Have a bonfire.
17. Have a bonfire concert.
18. If you can't build an actual bonfire, make a fake one in your living room.
All you need is some paper towel rolls, red, yellow, and orange construction paper, and some glue. If you want it to actually give off light, stick a flashlight in the middle.
19. Or you can light a bunch of candles.
20. And if candles aren't allowed in you building, set up a bunch of glow sticks.
21. You could even make the glow sticks another creepy decoration.
22. Tell scary stories around your bonfire.
Because I care about you, my readers, so very much, I looked up real-life horror stories to swap. Note: I don't do scary stories, so I did not read any of these. Hopefully you're braver than I.
23. Go for a hayride.
24. Go to a Haunted House.
Notice that I wrote "Haunted House" and not "haunted house". Please go to a real event where actors are paid to scare you and not the house down the street where Mrs. Norris died fifty years ago and her soul supposedly still haunts the place. That's just bad news, and goes against the "don't disturb the spirit world" rule I've already mentioned.
25. Have a Murder Mystery Party.
The best ones are where everyone has a specific character that they have to act like.
26. Carve a pumpkin.
How creative can you get?
27. Visit the Great Pumpkin.
28. Play Glow-in-the-Dark Capture the Flag.
It's basically the same as regular Capture the Flag, except players wear glow sticks as bracelets and necklaces, and the flags are glow sticks, too.
29. In costume!
30. Trick-or-treat!
This might be difficult for college students.
31. Thank the people who give you treats ... and trick the ones who don't.
Happy Halloween!
