It's the middle of summer and we seem to be having a heat wave – of outstanding July holidays! The big Fourth of July fireworks show may come at the beginning of the month, but there are plenty of other events to celebrate throughout the month. Make every day an occasion with these 31 holidays to celebrate in July!

1. July 1: International Joke Day

Imagine the world with a lot less conflict and a lot more laughter- that's what International Joke Day was created to accomplish. Since laughter is the best medicine, spread some health and happiness by celebrating International Joke Day and sharing some humor!

2. July 2: World UFO Day

Keep your eyes on the sky at night, because they are out there. According to the World UFO Day website, the celebration of all things unidentified, airborne and object began in 2001. If you're feeling particularly conspiratorial, holiday organizers implore you to use this day to “encourage governments to declassify their knowledge about sightings throughout the history.”

3. July 3: Compliment Your Mirror Day

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all? Hint: it's you! Compliment Your Mirror Day is a day to reflect on your beauty, inside and out. It's easy to overlook your magnificence between work, school and life's responsibilities, so take July 3rd as an opportunity to celebrate your beauty.

4. July 4: Sidewalk Egg Frying Day

We've all heard the expression "so hot outside you could fry an egg," but today is the special occasion we put this phrase to the test. Oatman, Arizona has even raised the stakes with an annual solar-frying contest. Since you need daylight for this activity, it doesn't need to be mutually exclusive with the Fourth of July fireworks; it's a win for everyone. Happy egg-frying!

5. July 5: National Apple Turnovers Day

On July 5 every year, National Apple Turnover Day is observed in celebration of a delicious apple treat that was discovered in the 19th century. To celebrate this day, try an apple turnover recipe and share it with your family and friends!

Pucker up for some summer love! Formerly known as National Kissing Day in the United Kingdom, International Kissing Day is celebrated every July 6th to help us appreciate kissing in its own right; no conventions, no social norms, just a kiss. It is also cited as a direct cause for National Mono Day.

7. July 7: National Father-Daughter Take a Walk Day

Family is where life begins and love never ends. This day was created to encourage family bonding time between fathers and daughters as well as the benefits of physical activity. During the summer season, there are many wonderful places to walk and enjoy nature as you spend time talking, laughing and bonding. The memories that are made during your time together will stay with you forever, so take advantage of this holiday to spend time with your father or daughter!

8. July 8: Collector Car Appreciation Day

The look is classic old school, but the celebration is ahead of its time. Upon the request of the SEMA Action Network (SAN), the Senate has passed a resolution helping to launch Collector Car Appreciation Day to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. Post photos of your collector car on social media using #CollectorCarAppreciationDay or admire other's vintage rides!

9. July 9: National Sugar Cookie Day

Every year on July 9, society celebrates the popular and delicious sugar cookie. Although they vary in their shapes and sizes, one thing that remains consistent is their ability to disappear quickly into hungry mouths after leaving the oven. Celebrate this holiday by trying out a sugar cookie recipe!

10. July 10: National Teddy Bear Picnic Day

In the early 20th century, John Walter Bratton composed an instrumental song entitled “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic.” In the late 1980s, collectible items dealer Royal Selangor decided to turn that into a national holiday. Even over a century later, this day remains popular throughout Europe, as far away as Australia and in many reputable stuffed bear circles.

What could taste better than cold, free slurpees on a hot July day? In observance of the eponymous date 7/11, the convenience store celebrates National 7-Eleven Day by doling out free slurpees (while supplies last). 13. July 13: National French Fry Day

French Fries are so classic and delicious that they get their own annual celebration. Last year, some McDonald's restaurants gave away their signature deep-fried potato sticks in honor of this important occasion. Free or not, use this day as an opportunity to treat yourself to a full basket of guilt-free, fried goodness!

14. July 14: Bastille Day

Storm your local Bastille in honor of France's momentous 1789 victory. Many U.S cities host Bastille Day celebrations, so this is the perfect time to celebrate the birth of French democracy and indulge in some delicious French foods and fireworks.

15. July 15: National Give Something Away Day

As Robert Ingersoll once said, "we rise by lifting others", National Give Something Away Day is an occasion to pay it forward and do something nice for someone, whether it is someone you know or a stranger in need. Celebrate by buying lunch for someone in need, donating clothing you no longer wear or even calling someone just to let them know you are thinking about them; the opportunities are endless!

Where would we be without corn fritters? This simple dish is comfort food heaven. National Corn Fritters Day is a celebration of comfort food and simple cooking. 17. July 17: World Emoji Day

Emojis are the texting sensation that have been taking over the world; everybody and their mother seems to use them. July 17 is the date famously displayed on the iOS calendar emoji, which makes it the perfect date for World Emoji Day, a global celebration of emoji. Tweet your favorite emoji or your favorite 50 emojis; there's only one World Emoji Day, so make the most of it!

Listening is the secret to discovering great stories. World Listening Day is an annual event dedicated to celebrating the listening practices of our world and the ecology of its acoustic environments. This year's theme, "Sounds Lost and Found," calls on listening and observing changes in our soundscapes have occurred in recent times- whether it be nature, music or language- and implementing efforts to preserve those sounds.

19. July 19: National Daiquiri Day

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
