It's that time of year, the seasons are changing, the cherry blossoms appear, and finals are approaching. While we are all studying very hard, it is difficult not to become susceptible to distractions. Our minds race, and with constant internet access, our thoughts run a mile a minute.
1. Okay, I'm just about to start studying.
2. I'm so productive!
3. Three chapters don't have anything on me! I am the Econ/Bio/Chem/Art History master!
4. I made it through a page!
5. This is taking longer than expected.
6. Maybe if I open up Spotify, music will help motivate me.
7. Okay, I heard classical music works well for studying.
8. But look, it's Rihanna and Beyoncé.
9. Ooh, and the "Hamilton" soundtrack.
10. "Talk less, smile more."
11. No, stop singing "Hamilton" and get back to work.
12. If I keep working at this pace, I should be able to make it through this many pages in... two hours?
13. Well, if I'm going to keep my morale up, I'll need snacks.
14. I'll eat one of those granola bars I have in my room.
15. But look at all the snacks my parents sent me!
16. Maybe I'll make some Easy Mac--that's a meal, right?
17. Oh, people are in the common room--how nice!
18. And wow, my phone just blew up!
19. No. I have to pay attention.
20. Wow, I just read through ten more pages.
21. I am so productive.
22. There was a new "Saturday Night Live" this weekend?
23. But I'm almost done this chapter.
24. When I finish this chapter, I'll reward myself with this piece of chocolate.
25. Whatever, I'm eating the chocolate now.
26. I see the light at the end of the tunnel!
27. Last... Paragraph...
28. I did it, I read the chapter!
29. I can reward myself with anything now!
30. Until I realize I have ten more things to do.
Georgetown is a great school, and while procrastination is easy to fall into, you have to keep plugging away until the work gets done! Good luck on midterms and finals!
