30 Thoughts I've Had Moving In As A Second Year

Move-in weekend has come and gone in Hooville, and classes are finally starting. While all of the first years are completely lost, second years are doing a pretty good job at pretending that we have everything figured out. Here's some thoughts that I've had moving in as a Second Year.

1. The first years look so confused...

2. Wait, I have to cook now?

3. At least I can lose the Freshman 15.

4. "I'm a firs-I mean second year."

5. Thank goodness I don't have to go to all of those first year meetings again.

6. Is this apartment really all mine?

7. So, I'm not sharing this bathroom with ten other people?

8. Maybe I should go grocery shopping...

9. I'm so glad I finally have some space to myself.

10. But I do miss my suitemates...

11. We should have a suite reunion!

12. I feel like I should have my life together since I'm not a first year.

13. At least I know where everything is.

14. I still can't believe that I can have a car.

15. Is it weird to pack your lunch for school?

16. I have a feeling the bus system will be my best friend this year.

17. Oh my gosh this bathroom is huge!

18. Wait, I have to actually clean the bathroom.

19. I want to see everyone else's apartments!

20. There better not be any random fire alarms in the middle of the night in this apartment. (shoutout to CDF)

21. I have so many boxes to unpack, I don't even know where to start.

22. I'm really going to miss walking to Runk for an omelet.

23. First thing on my to do list: go see the Rotunda.

24. I wonder how far the walk is from here to the Corner...

25. Is this what being an adult feels like?

26. I'm going to Crossroads at 2AM just for old time's sake.

27. Okay, what should I eat for dinner?

28. Now I regret complaining about O'Hill dinner.

29. By this time last year, I had played 25 ice breaker games.

30. I can't believe I'm already a second year.

Welcome back class of 2019!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
