30 Things To-Do This Fall

With Autumn among us, comes several activities that are much more enjoyable this time of the year. Here's a list of some of my favorites, along with a few specific locations. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

1. Go apple picking

Meadowlark Farm - 11249 SW 160th St, Rose Hill, KS, 67133

They offer a large variety of apples, peaches, and veggies that you can pick yourself! You'll also find them at the Farmers Market in Wichita & Derby. http://www.themeadowlarkfarm.com

2. Get lost in a corn maze.

The last few years, this has been one of my favorite things!

Bergmann's Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch - 8401 S. Meridian, Haysville, KS 67060

They have the largest corn maze in Wichita. Over 200 fun trivia questions are hidden in the maze, and it's so much fun to do with a huge group at night. They ALSO have giant slingshots, Tri-cycle races, pony rides, concessions, a pumpkin patch, and much more. http://www.bergmanncornmaze.com

3. Take a hot-air balloon ride.

I've never done this, but it's something I'd love to do! There's several options for this around Kansas if you look online.

4. Go for a hike!

Ever been to Coronado Heights? If not, this is fun for a day-trip! Lot's of hiking and beautiful lookouts. Otherwise, find a trail at your local park! It's the perfect weather for adventuring.

5. Go for a hayride.

I always tag-along to a hayrack ride/pot luck with my grandmas church. It's something I've looked forward too since I was a little girl!

6. Collect colorful fall leaves

Take a walk in the park, and see what you can find. You could also take a basic leaf throwing picture to celebrate!

7. Rent a cabin in the mountains, or near the lake!

8. Tailgate at a football game

Doesn't matter what team, tailgating is always fun! Be sure to do it at LEAST once.

9. Participate in a local race

There are hundreds of difference races/5k/marathons during this time. Not a runner? Some of them are for fun to raise money for different philanthropies. You DON'T have to run the entire time.

10. Take a long drive on the back roads.

Windows down, music up. Take random turns. Enjoy the drive.

11. Make a pinecone bird feeder

Don't know how? Here's directions.

12. Fall in love with a "fall" recipe.

I recently made Pumpkin Pie Truffles, and they were AMAZING. 10/10 would recommend. You can find that recipe here:

13. Shop at your local farmers market

Man, there's something about going and buying your fruits and veggies from the market that is so fun! Plus, it's important to go support you local farmers.

14. Make/eat candied/caramel/chocolate covered apples

Don't know how? Choose what you want to dip the apple in. Then dip it in your choice of toppings like oreo, m&m, etc. Let them dry, then eat em' up!

15. Drink hot apple cider, or a chai latte!

16. Make a big batch of chili

Oh, don't have a recipe? No worries, I got you covered.

17. Carve pumpkins

If you don't carve pumpkins, was it even fall? Seriously, though.

18. Make your own Halloween costume

Pinterest. Pinterest. Pinterest. Trust me.

19. Go on a Haunted Trail, or in a Haunted House!

Ever been to Worlds of Fun (Kansas City) during October? They have it decorated and several haunted parts! If you're in Wichita, The Field of Screams is AMAZING. If you're near Manhattan or JC, Zombie Toxin rocks as well. If you're in KC, check out Edge of Hell.

20. Halloween movie marathon

Need a few ideas? Halloweentown, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Addams Family, Edward Scissorhands, It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Harry Potter, Hocus Pocus, etc.

21. Throw a Halloween party!

With Pinterest around, how could you even go wrong? There's so many simple DIY ideas for this.

22. Decorate your house with halloween/fall decor!

Same with 21, Pinterest is the answer to all of our prayers. HOLLA!

23. Snuggle up in all your warm sweaters.

Target & Old Navy are breaking my bank right now, but at least I'm warm and fashionable!

24. Build a bonfire, and have people over for smores!

25. Attend a fall festival

There's several festivals at this time of year. Of all different types! Look up fall festivals in your area.

26. Wear your favorite jeans

I'm not a fan of jeans, but some days are perfect for them. And I do have a pair that I absolutely love.

27. Remember what you're thankful for

Take a moment out of every single day to realize all of the positive things in your life. Whether that is people, or opportunities you've been given, be thankful. Not only that, but voice how thankful you are. I've never heard a single person complain that someone stated that they were thankful too much.

28. Go to a pumpkin patch

I listed one a few lines up, but another one of my favorites is...

Sunny Side Pumpkin Patch - 11500 S Hopkins Rd, Assaria, KS 67416

Sunny Side has a beautiful big red barn for events and big groups, concessions, a petting zoo, 6 acres of pumpkins, 2 corn mazes, and lots of fun games for the family!

29. Find some new fall scents for your home

Need ideas or inspiration? Don't worry, I wrote about it in my last article! https://www.theodysseyonline.com/fall-scented-candles-at-bath-and-body

30. Spend time with your loved ones.

I cannot stress this enough. Love on the people in your life. Because in the end, people will always be there when times are good and when times are bad.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
