30 Things That Always Happen During GVDT Spirit Week.

It is that time of year again, the week we wait for all semester -- GVDT Spirit Week! We have put in hours of rehearsals, choreographers have busted their butts, and we have all survived the gross racquet ball courts! Now all that is left to survive is spirit week, the week where every single night we put in even more hours of hard work, to put on three amazing shows at the end of the week! Here are 30 things that us dance troupers all know will happen at some point during spirit week!

1. Blocking will be full of frantic running and confusion.

2. Once we start our first run-through of the entire show, everyone will be watching to see all of the other dances.

3. Most dances will be a hot mess, but that's OK because it will be a very long week.

4. Some people will always be late because no one remembers which days start at 7:45 and which ones start at 8.

5. You will bring homework to rehearsals, but most of the time it just sits on your lap while you find yourself watching what dance is on stage.

6. You will sacrifice numerous socks and possibly shoes to the stage...

7. You will be dripping sweat when we do the dances 1-2, 1-2, 3-4, 3-4.....

8. There will always be people in the hallways practicing.

9. You won't have a social life at all.

10. Countless hair ties and bobby pins will be lost.

11. You will find yourself saying, "I wish I was in that dance" several times...

12. Eventually, Lindsey McNally will take the microphone and the room will go silent because everyone must respect Momma McNally.

13. Your email and Facebook will be blown up with notifications from choreographers with videos and comments.

14. You will be constantly reminded that you're not suppose to look pretty up close when it comes to stage makeup... (and lets not forget the looks we get when we go out in public with stage makeup on).

15. Someone may chase you down to hairspray your fly aways.

16. Backstage you will see various forms of coffee and energy drinks, because what's sleep?

17. You will constantly be "shushed" while backstage.

18. Everyone will probably feel like they need to pee before they step on stage, but don't worry. It will go away once you start dancing!

19. Basically all dances will look like a whole new dance come dress rehearsal!

20. You will be jealous of at least one costume.

21. There will be at least one jazz square and a set of jump claps in closer.

22. Friday classes will drag on being that it's finally show day!

23. "Going Banana's" has a special place in our hearts...

24. Saturday will be the longest, yet fastest day of your life.

25. You will regret the food you shoved down your throat between shows on Saturday.

26. Saturday night show is filled with a bunch of mixed emotions because you don't want it be over yet!

27. You will tear up when the seniors take their final bow...

28. We will all eat like there's no tomorrow at Cast Party....who said dancers don't eat??

29. Everyone will take 5,000 pictures

30. You won't believe that the longest week of the semester flew by so fast....

Grand Valley Dance Troupe is more than just a bunch of dancers... We are a family! I am forever thankful for finding my home away from home in this organization!

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
