Oh, high school. It feels just like yesterday, right?

You've been on your own for quite some time now, though.

You're finally getting accustomed to having more responsibilities on your plate, you've met new people at a new place and it's been a time of experimentation to say the least.

Through it all, you're realizing that the more you grow, the more you begin to know.

Every experience has a lesson that you should keep.

So take a seat, because we're about to get deep:

1. Naps really do give you the kick-start of energy that you need.

2. Exercise – it's better to start earlier than later.

3. Humility is noticed.

4. Involvement on campus cultures you.

5. Don’t be scared to express yourself.

6. People come and go.

7. Keep your friends close, but your family closer.

8. Time is flying by, but I feel the same as I did years ago.

9. Having a positive outlook will make the hardest days easier.

10. Study hard.

11. Don't be afraid to ask for help – mentally, physically and emotionally.

12. If you know someone, say hi to them.

13. Kindness is cool.

14. Respect your parents – it’ll dawn on you just how much they’ve done for you.

15. Independence.

16. Set goals – your decisions now will shape your future.

17. Surround yourself with motivated people.

18. Partying is fun, but it isn’t everything.

19. Ask questions.

20. Become familiar with a professor in your field that you can seek for guidance.

21. Don’t take anything for granted.

22. People appreciate a good sense of humor.

23. Love can be anything that you are passionate about.

24. Boys and girls are more similar than you think.

25. Learn about ways of life that are different from your own without attempting to change them.

26. Give people the benefit of the doubt.

27. Don’t be shy about your faith, or lack of one.

28. The more people that you know, the better.

29. There’s always something more you could be doing.

30. No one loves you more than your parents, and your pet at home.

The list ends here, but I'm sure that it'll be extended in a few years ...

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
