30 Things To Be Grateful For

During the holiday season, we are surrounded by our loved ones and encouraged to be thankful for all that have. Sometimes, however, the big things surpass the small things and we fail to recognize the little moments that make us happy. Here’s to the little moments that make up our daily lives.

1. That feeling when you clean your ears with a cotton swab

2. When you send a risky text but you get the reply you want

3. When you got ready in a rush but somebody compliments how you look

4. Professor sending you an email headlined “Class is Cancelled”

5. Finding a parking spot when you’re running late

6. When somebody can’t even tell their story because they are laughing too hard to say it

7. When you watch something that inspires you and sparks something

8. When you meet someone and instantly find so many things you connect about

9. When you find something that you lost

10. When you finally get into your bed after a long day

11. When you’re really hungry and your friend gives you some of their leftovers

12. When you wake up before your alarm so you still have time to go back to sleep

13. First swig of hot coffee on a cold day

14. When you get invested in a book that becomes your escape

15. When you’re sick and your friend brings you soup

16. When you get unexpected mail from a loved one

17. When you actually like your haircut right after getting it cut

18. Watching military homecoming videos

19. When you get a position that you applied for

20. When you weren’t expecting it to rain but it downpours and you find an umbrella in your bag

21. When you finally reach the itch on your back

22. Warm clothes out of the dryer

23. When you’re wearing uncomfortable shoes and you finally get to take them off

24. New car smell

25. When a coworker covers your shift

26. When someone genuinely listens to you

27. When you’re in line at a restaurant and the person in front of you doesn’t know what they want so they let you go first

28. When there is a lot of traffic and you’re trying to switch into a lane and someone lets you in

29. When you’ve been holding in a sneeze and you’re finally able to get it out

30. When you wake up in the mornings feeling recognizing all the wonderful things you have, tangible or intangible

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
