30 Thank You's To My Best Friend

We all know the classic television best friend duos and we all compare our own best friendships with those characters—Rachel and Monica, Serena and Blaire, Meredith and Cristina. But with all that comparing, we sometimes forget that our own friendship duo is even better than the ones from our favorite shows because it wasn’t written in a script, it’s real life. With this in mind, I think it’s important that we find what’s unique about our best friendships and that we are thankful for the real things. So here’s to the things to be forever thankful for in friendships:

1. Thank you for not letting me take myself too seriously.

2. Thank you for letting me be as dramatic as I want.

3. Thank you for never letting me feel alone.

4. Thank you for loving tequila as much as I do.

5. Thank you for answering my 3 a.m. phone calls.

6. Thank you for saving the hilarious voicemails I leave when you don’t answer the 3 a.m. phone calls.

7. Thank you for forgiving me when I screw up.

8. Thank you for laughing at all of my jokes—even the truly terrible ones.

9. Thank you for having the same taste in music as me.

10. Thank you for never complaining when I sing horrendously in the car because I think I’m Adele.

11. Thank you for running every errand with me because you know I hate being alone.

12.Thank you for always driving because I have no sense of direction.

13. Thank you for letting me third wheel like it’s my day job.

14. Thank you for letting me make fun of you all the time—it’s out of love I promise.

15. Thank you for putting up with me when I decide to start speaking in a foreign accent for an entire hour.

16. Thank you for knowing my coffee order.

17. Thank you for being the responsible adult when I can’t fill that role myself.

18. Thank you for not commenting when I wear your clothes out.

19. Thank you for telling me when my outfit is heinous.

20. Thank you for never judging about how messy my room is—I know it gets pretty bad sometimes.

21. Thank you for understanding how I can hate someone one day and then love them the next.

22. And thanks for keeping up with how we feel about that someone on a daily basis.

23. Thank you for being on my side even when it’s the wrong one.

24. Thank you for letting me crash your family dinners—because we all know I’m actually your parents’ favorite child.

25. Thank you for being the sibling I never had.

26. Thank you for telling me I’m lying to myself when I say I’m organized and never late.

27. Thank you for being my person.

28. Thank you for the reality checks and the tough love.

29. Thank you for coffee dates.

30. Thank you for letting me quote lines through an entire movie—I know it’s annoying

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
