30 Signs That You've Gone To Camp Longhorn

Whether you're a returning ninth-year camper, or a counselor at Camp Longhorn, you know that everything about Camp Longhorn is perfect and that it truly is Heaven on Earth. You get to spend weeks away from the real world and focus on friendships and social skills that will last a lifetime. Camp Longhorn still holds the same traditions that were started by Tex Robertson when the camp was founded, and those traditions are what makes camp so unique.

From President George W. Bush to Hilary Duff, many successful people started off as Camp Longhorn campers. The lessons you learn at Camp Longhorn not only prepare you for the future, but they also teach you how to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

Anyone that has gone to Camp Longhorn will know the following things to be true:

1. When asked what your favorite camp activity is, the answer will always be blob.

2. You know that Apple Crisp is life.

3."Ohhhhh, the Lord is good to me and so I thank the Lord, for giving me the things I need, the sun and the rain and the appleseed, the Lord is good to me. Amen. Do it again. Pass the salt let's begin hey" will be stuck in your head for at least two weeks after you leave camp and try to eat meals.

4. It'll be your life goal to someday be a General for the Marines and Marinas.

5. You start saying "Attaway" in every sentence.

6. You think that you deserve much more than one merit and an orange slice after Mile Swim (Smile Swim).

7. You worship the Chiefs because they're perfect in every way.

8. You can't make it a camp term without walking into the Pit Stop for some reason or another.

9. You've been hit with a falling piece of gum from the sky during GumDrop.

10. Name-Tha makes you realize how terrible you are with names.

11. Dance Night is the best night.

12. You married multiple people at Carnival and always hoped your cabin would get a food booth.

13. Your ideal Funtastics schedule includes trolley, blob, and lagoon.

14. You've never seen anything more beautiful than the sunset at Church Mountain.

15. The sound of a cabin door slamming sends chills down your spine.

16. You've heard the phrase "That's a D" more than you should've.

17. You know that the boys never know the words to Taps, so that's why they have the humming part.

18. Getting Swimmer of the Day or Rough Rider is pretty great, but nothing compares to being a Campfire Lighter.

19. The kids that have birthdays during camp are the luckiest because they get cake and a big ATTAWAYTOGROW.

20. The songs "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" will always remind you of the Boys Staff Skit.

21. Longhorn Cup gets way more competitive than one would expect.

22. You will look at the camp directors and think, "wow, actual life goals."

23. You're an absolute professional at cleaning your tray.

24. You know that the portable fan you lie in bed with is a must-have.

25. Longhorn fold will forever be the way you make your bed.

26. You go out in the real world wishing it ran on the merit system.

27. "I'm the OD of the day and I'm proud to report that all ____ are ready and eager for ____"

28. Getting water all over your face while getting an Ol' faceful is just part of the experience.

29. "No V-Day, we wanna stay."

30. You know that as soon as camp is over you will begin counting down the days until you get to return.

Attawaytogo.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
