30 Reasons Why You Should Love Your Roommate

It's hard to believe that I have officially finished my first year of college, and with that, I can successfully say that I have survived having a freshman year roommate. Of course I was lucky enough to not have spent the past year living with a nightmarish person.

I hope everyone was as lucky as I was to have a roommate that they got along with and can understand these 30 reasons why I say you should love your roommate.

1. Your roommate will help you study for the class that they took last semester, even if they have to write an essay.

2. Sometimes your roommate will surprise you with Starbucks when you have had a really bad day.

3. Your roommate understands the importance of binge-watching Netflix and doesn't ask you to put headphones in.

4. Your roommate started binge-watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt after you demanded she do so—no questions asked.

5. Your roommate will always order pizza with you, no matter what time of day.

6. When they go to the grocery store, your roommate always remembers to ask if you need anything.

7. Even after not showering for three days, your roommate will tell you that you don't look greasy and that wearing the same outfit is definitely acceptable.

8. Your roommate will let you borrow their clothes when you don't feel like doing laundry.

9. You roommate never mentions that one time you called them Mom/Dad on accident.

10. If you talk in your sleep, they won't spill the beans on what you say.

11. And they never complain about whether or not you snore.

12. They were most likely your first friends on campus, which shows you how awesome they are.

13. They ignore the fact that you eat the cookies their mom sent them.

14. And when they do get frustrated, they just have their mom make you cookies too.

15. Your roommate will always keep you in the know about the gossip from his or her hometown… even though you don't actually know anyone.

16. On random weekdays, your roommate will never discourage you from going out, unless you have homework to do.

17. Your roommate never judges you for falling asleep on the floor after a night out because beds are hard to get into.

18. Your roommate will never complain about the alarm that goes off for your 8 a.m., even though you once unplugged their alarm clock.

19. Even if your roommate is a neat freak, they won't ask you to clean your side of the room… though they may pile all of your things into your area.

20. On days that neither of you want to do anything, you make the silent agreement of not responding to any group text.

21. But if one roommate goes out, the other roommate goes out—because roomies who play together, stay together.

22. They understand the struggle of living in a dorm, and the struggle is real.

23. Your roommate won't judge you when you admit to Facebook/Twitter/Instagram stalking them before coming to college.

24. Your roommate always helps you choose what to wear.

25. When you're sick, any medicine or soup that belongs to your roommate belongs to you as well.

26. Your roommate will always come with you when you want to go out to eat but don't want to eat by yourself.

27. Your roommate will take every Buzzfeed quiz you send to them and send you screenshots of their results.

28. You and your roommate still think of every night as a sleepover, even though you guys have lived together all year.

29. Your roommate has to live with you, and for that you should probably name your first-born child after them.

30. Your roommate is one of your closest friends and you can't imagine living without them.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
