  1. TheFood. There’s nothing better than some good ole Cajun and creole cooking.
  2. Everybody is nice and welcoming, the definition of southern hospitality.
  3. Nobody else has beignets like Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.
  4. Mardi Gras, nuff said...
  5. There is a festival for literally everything.
  6. Southern Accents are the best.
  7. It’s sportsman’s paradise.
  8. If you think you like music you’ll love it when you hear some Cajun and Zydeco.
  9. We’re the only ones with Parishes.
  10. Louisiana is named after a King.
  11. We drink and survive Hurricanes.
  12. Mud riding is basically a sport.
  13. It’s normal for most names to end in “eaux.”
  14. Football in the south is just as important as your wedding.
  15. The rain doesn’t stop the party.
  16. Sweet Tea is the house wine.
  17. You don’t need moisturizer with the summer’s humidity.
  18. And on hot summer days, there’s always a river or creek nearby.
  19. Gumbo is good anytime of the year.
  20. When it floods, all you need is your pirogue to get down the streets.
  21. You learn to appreciate the sound of the accordion.
  22. One of our state’s famous sayings is “ Laissez les bons temps rouler.”
  23. It’s legal to be under age and have a few drinks with your parents.
  24. We have beautiful swamps and bayous.
  25. Every day is good for a parade and there’s always a reason to have a parade.
  26. The four seasons are referred to as Crawfish, hurricane, hunting, and football...
  27. It’s normal to drive down the road and see an alligator in the ditch.
  28. We have drive-through daiquiri shops.
  29. King Cakes are the best kind of cakes.
  30. At the end of the day we stick with each other through the good times and the bad.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated.
