From warm showers to midnight pizza.

30 Little Things We Love About College
Sam Kuchinski

As college students, many of us roughing it in off-campus apartments or living the sub-par dorm life. We either gain a billion pounds from the sometime questionably edible dining hall food or we survive off of Easy Mac and ramen. However, these are undoubtably the best years of our life so far. We don't really care that we don't have the luxuries of home because we're finally on our own.

In the case, though, that you need a simple reminder of the little luxuries and simple things we have in our new humble abodes and lives, here are 30.

1. When the showers are actually warm.

2. When the dining hall has your favorite food.

It's rare, but it's exciting.

3. When it's above 40 degrees walking to class.

Us Western New Yorkers really know that one

4. Getting care packages unexpectedly.

5. The oddly satisfying feeling of putting your dishes on the carousel in the dining hall.

Those who had to do dishes at home know the feeling

6. All the free stuff you can get from job fairs, club fairs, etc.

You never know how many drawstring bags you need.

7. Finally washing your sheets and laying in bed.

8. Getting to bed before midnight.

9. Student discounts at local stores.

Thank you, Subway and Tasty Time.

10. Never having to eat a meal alone.

11. Waking up for an 8:30 A.M. and somehow not being exhausted.

12. The feeling of finishing a really long paper.

You will complain while writing it, yet there really is no better feeling when it is done.

13. Having time to take a nap in between classes.

14. Getting a friend's Hulu or Netflix password.

(A blessing and a curse.)

15. Balancing your first balance sheet in accounting 201.

In the words of Professor Bysiek.

16. Having your friends visit and getting to show off your new home.

17. Looking back at pictures from earlier in the year.

You'll be glad you took them

18. Going for a joy ride.

As much as you love it, sometimes you need to actually leave campus for a bit.

19. Getting your schedule down to the minute.

Because you never want to be too early for class.

20. When the buffet lines are short in the dining hall.

Extra clutch during breakfast.

21. A freshly microwaved bowl of Mac N Cheese in hand

...while laying in bed, watching "Friends."

22. Knowing that heaven in a box (pizza) is only a phone call and 30 minutes or less away at the earliest hours of the morning.

23. Acing a really hard test/midterm/final.

24. When you look on point going out on the weekends.

Again, you will be happy you took pictures.

25. Group cuddle sessions with the best friends.

Any day, any time.

26. Holidays.

We all know they're bigger and better in college -- like how much did we really care about St. Patrick's Day at home?

27. Studying outside.

It is even better when none of your papers blow away.

28. Having a randomly, extremely productive day.

29. Cleaning your dorm room.

And, even though we love our new called home and are sad to leave, the best feeling will always be...

30. Giving your parents a hug after not seeing them for month when it's time to go home.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
