30 Things Disney Channel Original Movies Taught Me
Disney Channel

Recently, The Disney Channel announced that it will begin airing all 100 Disney Channel Original Movies starting in late May. One thing that I admired about Disney Channel Original Movies was that it made me feel like I could do anything. From topics ranging from skateboarding, cooking, mermaids, and magic, these movies inspired me and filled my childhood with lots of dreams. Here are a few lessons that I have learned from just a few of these films.

1. Halloweentown taught me that being unique and standing out from the crowd can sometimes be difficult. In the end, you will find your niche and your fellow weirdos.

2. The Zenon Trilogy taught me that it's okay to be a fangirl.

3. Brink taught me that sometimes taking risks can be a good thing.

4. Smart House taught me that it is probably safer to be single than to create a fake significant other. Also, Smart House taught me that its best to not completely rely on technology. Sometimes it's best to get things done the old fashioned way.

5. The Thirteenth Year justified that mermaids were indeed real.

6. Johnny Tsunami taught me that you shouldn't let changes in your life effect you from doing what you love.

7. The Color of Friendship taught me never to judge others before getting to know them. Everyone has their own story to tell. Learning about other people's cultures can expand your mind and put yourself in their shoes.

8. Up, Up, And Away taught me that you do not need to have super powers to be a hero. Everyone is special in their own way and save the day at any moment in time.

9. Quints taught me that even though you may not be the center of attention in your family, they will always care about you.

10. Motocrossed taught me that girls can do anything!

11. Luck of the Irish showed me that your heritage is something to be proud of.

12. Cadet Kelly taught me that sometimes things may be tough but if you work hard through it all, there can be positive outcomes.

13. The Famous Jett Jackson Movie taught me that adventure is out there. Never settle for a monotonous lifestyle.

14. Tru Confessions detailed what it is like living with a sibling with disabilities. This movie taught me how to be respectful and patient with others. You may not know fully what others are going through.

15. Get a Clue taught me that although adults may not believe you, you can sometimes form an unofficial investigation and prove your point. Also: spy outfits are always necessary.

16. Gotta Kick It Up not only taught me what "Si se puede" meant, but that there is always time to break against the norm and achieve great things.

17. You Wish taught me that nothing can come between a sibling bond.

18. The Even Stevens Movie gave me a reason to believe that killer squirrels may exist.

19. Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off made me realize that I should probably learn how to cook on my own.

20. The Cheetah Girls taught me to value friendship over self-interests.

21. Full Court Miracletaught me that even the smallest acts of kindness can mean so much to someone in need.

22. Pixel Perfect taught me that no one is indeed "perfect." Learn to love your imperfections despite what anyone else says about you.

22. Stuck in the Suburbs gives me hope that losing your cell phone can't always end up terribly.

23. Tiger Cruise showed me the inside struggles of military families. It is definitely not a glamorous position to be put in.

24. Buffalo Dreams taught me the importance of preserving species such as the buffalo. The movie also taught me some basics of Navajo cultures and traditions.

25. High School Musical taught me to never hide my true colors. Don't hold back something that makes you who you are, celebrate it.

26. Cow Belles taught not to be afraid to ask for help. Also, when you mess up, make sure to give full effort in making it better.

27. Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior showed me that it is never too late to learn more about your ancestry and heritage. It also showed me how fierce women can be.

28. Camp Rock showed me that it is better to be yourself than try to fit into a social group. It also brought attention the under-appreciated craft of birdhouse making.

29. Jump In brought me into the art of jump roping. It also taught me a lot about standing up to people when they are bugging you.

30. Princess Protection Program taught me that befriending someone different than you can be a blessing.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
