'Healthy' and 'college' never really seem to go together. College is stressful with long hours at school, studying, and working, and there isn't always time to go out shopping and cook healthy meals every day, believe me, I've tried. Life happens. Sometimes you forget the big paper for your English class is due tomorrow and you've only started the first paragraph, or your midterm leaves you exhausted. It's honestly so easy to go out and grab pizza after a long day, and sometimes you need that large Dutch Bros to finish studying for your final. But after a while, eating all that junk food can leave you bloated and feeling gross. While there will always be times that you indulge in some comfort foods, here are three easy ways that can help you be healthier in college:
1. Drink infused water instead of drinking things like juice or soda
We all know that its healthier to drink water over any other beverage, but some people don't like that water has no taste, and waste calories on sodas. Infused water is the best of both worlds, all the health advantages of drinking water plus the yummy flavors of whatever fruit you choose to put inside. I've never had a problem with the taste of water, but I love juice and soda. Ever since I got my water infuser I don't crave sugary drinks like I used to, and I feel better throughout my day.
2. Eat throughout the day, not just at dinner
I'm guilty of doing this all the time, school and work get busy, and you feel like you just don't have time to grab something to eat. But doing this not only messes with your metabolism, it also makes you more likely to binge eat at dinner, or snack late at night. By bringing things like baggies of grapes or carrots with you to school to munch on can help improve your metabolism and curb binge eating.
3. Make food with your roomies
Two big reasons colleges students eat out are because they feel like they don't have enough time to make something themselves or they are too tired to cook for themselves. By dividing up cooking duties among your roommates it can be easier to avoid going out to eat, plus you can save money when buying in bulk to cook for multiple people. You can even pull up a healthy recipe list online and take turns making and trying new things.
