Summer means not worrying about papers that you need to write, or articles and books you need to read, with that you can finally let loose. And we all know what letting loose means, booze. Lots of booze. If you're not yet 21 your parents might not let you drink, if you are 21, you can drink as much as you want whenever you want. There is one thing to remember though, summer means hot. Hot means you are going to sweat, and you are going to dehydrate faster, add some drinking to that mix and you might turn in to a raisin. But actually, people have died from heat exhaustion because they had been drinking and fallen asleep outside. I am here to make sure that does not happen and also so your hangover isn't so bad.
1. For everything drink, enjoy a nice glass of water.
Okay, I know. No one is actually going to do this, I won't even do this. We all know the suggestion though, for every alcoholic beverage you consume you are supposed to drink a glass of water in between the next. The thought behind this is that for every dehydrating beverage you are consuming you are following that with something that will re-hydrate you. It is also supposed to reduce the chance that you get a hangover, if that helps you choose that at all.
2. Pregame.
Well, pregame with water. I think we have all done this when we know what kind of night we are in for. It is a timeless ritual, drink all the water you can before you have to go out and obliterate your poor liver.
3. Ice.
I mean, think about it: add ice to your drink, it waters the drink down yes, BUT you are getting at least a little bit of water in there. That water might be crucial. What if you haven't had water all day, and you have been downing the drinks at the bar instead. But you've run out of money and you're sipping whatever is left in the bottom of your drink which just happens to be water.
Summer is about having fun, and letting loose. But being safe is much more important than having a good time. So stay hydrated, and have fun!
