3 Ways You Can Be More Positive In 2017

The first few weeks of the year always have me thinking about what I can do to make this the year. Typically, this involves creating a list of too many resolutions to keep count of, and then realizing I can’t keep up with all of them. For 2017, I am trying to make things more manageable. This is the year I plan to master the skills of positive thinking and manifestation. After being bombarded by negativity regarding 2016, I was inspired to introduce more positive energy into my life in the new year and beyond. Turns out, it is actually pretty easy to do if you follow 3 effective methods:

1. Alter the way you speak.

Making small changes in the way you speak can make a huge difference in the way you perceive yourself and the world around you. Whether you realize it or not, your own words are extremely impactful on your life. If you say something enough times, you may begin to believe it and make it your reality. Make a conscious effort to say things in a way that promote a more optimistic outlook instead of perpetuating negative thought patterns. For example, if you’re really stressed, tell yourself “this is easy”. Feeling tired and run down? Tell yourself you feel strong and motivated. It might sound kind of cheesy, but after making it a habit, you will start to frame your thoughts and words in a more positive way.

2. Express gratitude.

Studies have shown that by writing down three things you are grateful for every day, your happiness and overall health will most likely improve. Even if it is the smallest thing, acknowledging what you’re grateful for can instantly elevate your mood.

If you express your gratitude daily, then you are most likely to:

  • Sleep better.
  • Exercise more.
  • Be more selfless.
  • Improve your relationships with others.
  • Become more resilient.

3. Manifest a positive reality.

Whether it is through positive affirmations, a dream board, or a list of goals, acknowledge whatever it is that you aspire to achieve...it can be anything! I have been reading my list of goals first thing when I wake up and every night before I go to bed. The Law of Attraction works in mysterious ways, but by putting more energy into positive things, the more likely it is that you will manifest them into your life. It will surely help keep you feeling motivated and inspired.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
