Even if you refrain from biting your nails, picking your nose, or popping your zits, you could still be carrying out some pretty bad habits. How we treat ourselves as young adults will affect how we treat ourselves for the rest of our lives. Say you spend your days picking at your self-esteem by constantly telling yourself that you aren't good enough. This will affect the relationships that you form and the decisions you make well into adulthood. College students bear the responsibility of securing their futures while also dealing with the of personal growth that comes with young adulthood. With that much on your plate, it's easy to fall into these bad habits without even realizing it. So, here are three things that you need to stop doing to yourself right this instant.
1. Stop holding on to the past.
Whether it happened five years ago or five minutes ago, it's over. You have to keep moving on because your life isn't going to wait up for you. And it's impossible to start a new chapter if you're still re-reading the old one.
2. Stop giving your time away to the wrong people.
If you look at someone, and I mean really examine this person, and they do not spark joy inside of you, you are wasting your precious time on this earth with the wrong person. This stands for friendships as well as relationships. Never give a day to someone that sucks out your happiness just because you feel obligated to.
3. Stop being afraid of making mistakes.
Berating yourself for trying something and getting is wrong is so counterproductive it hurts. Try instead to be forgiving. Bad habits take 21 days to form and 21 days to break.
