Of course every University is amazing, there are always great things about all of them. UH Manoa is one of those Universities that always slides under the radar, and I'm not sure why: the experiences I found here are unlike any other, and it's location is, of course, hard to beat. Here are 3 things about UH Manoa you might not know:
- Our claim to fame is our native Hawaiian and indigenous classes. Hawaii is so much more than our beaches and our poke: a culture so deeply rooted and so deeply prominent that it merits its own major and its own studies. No other place on earth will you find a study dedicated purely to the roots of these islands, and there is truly nothing more glorious than the dedication, the love, and perseverance of the Indigenous population.
- It has probably been a while since you went to the beach. It's thirty minutes away, but when you're knee deep in carbon chains, essays, and lab reports, those thirty minutes start feeling like thirty hours. And then once you're there, all you can see when you close your eyes is the last piece of the conclusion you still have to perfect.
- Walking to class, it's inevitable not to meet six or eight people you know. UH is a small campus, and it's not at the same time. If you're a public health major, you won't see any KRS majors often, but you'll see them on the way out, and then that one person you've been avoiding all week a series of times. For someone who misses home a lot, this is fantastic. You see people you love, they'll smile at you, high five your or even hug you. It's warm, and it never fails to make your day better.
