I’ve never been one to keep my bedroom super neat. Clothes end up everywhere after countless rummages through my dresser, and every surface is a magnet for stray papers and miscellaneous objects.
I recently vowed to begin keeping my room clean as best as possible, and to being conscious of the clutter that ends up in the corners of my room (or, really, everywhere). I thought I’d share three ways that I find are simple enough to keep up with, but that make a huge difference in the atmosphere of your room and the stress that comes with having a unorganized space.
Step One: Organize Your Electronics Cords
I’m positive in this day and age that this is an issue that a lot of people come across. While power strips are a great way to keep everything in one area, sometimes the cords can get out of control, or you can mix them up all too easily. Try labeling them so its easier when unplugging and plugging things in — it’s all about efficiency! You can label with colored tape or even using bread-tags left over from your latest loaf. Write on the tag what each cord is for and attach! Another DIY trick to make sure your cords take up less room is to use a paper towel tube — all you have to do is wrap your cords up nicely and put them through. Repurposing, here we come!
Step Two: Get Desk Papers In Order
It’s pretty easy to let papers fall where they may. Floor, desk, chairs: they can end up just about anywhere. While folders may seem like a go-to, there are other fun ways to organize your desk. Buy a box that is already decorated — or decorate it yourself! Buy a few, label them and stack them with different papers for different projects or occasions. Make sure to have a recycling bin nearby so that in the moment when unnecessary papers find themselves in your midst, you can recycle them instead of allowing them to clutter up your desk. Another good habit to pick up is to go through everything on your desk once a week and trash the trash and organize the rest. Having space to work is more important than some paper you printed a year ago.
Step Three: Stop Tripping Over Your Shoes
It happens to all of us. You get home, kick off your shoes and head straight for the bed. Then when you get out, it's trippin’ time. I like to buy a bin (Target, Ikea) that matches the color scheme in the room and throw them all in there. That way, they take up less room and look prettier doing it. A shoe rack is, of course, another great option. I also find that over time, I stop wearing certain shoes, but continue to hold on to them for some reason. Giving away or throwing out shoes can be a blessing in disguise, more room for you to walk, and more room to eventually purchase more shoes. Just make sure you organize them again!
