3 Things to Remember About what the Phrase "Getting Into the swing of things" Implies

I don't want you to think that this article is me taking a stance against that phrase (that would be silly, it's just a saying) but there are a few things we should probably remember that come with "getting back into the swing of things".

Dear People About To Read This Article,

"Hey there, How's it going? How's life?" these, or some version of these things are all questions that you will, at some point in the next week be asked. The answer will of course be nonchalant, but maybe you'll know the person really well and not just respond with the typical noncommittal answers we've become fond of giving. Now here's the interesting thing, we've reached a point in the semester in which the phrase "just getting back into the swing of it" will be among some of the responses used. That's fine, I don't want you to think that this article is me taking a stance against that phrase (that would be silly, it's just a saying) but there are a few things we should probably remember that come with "getting back into the swing of things".

We Wanted this

Seriously, part of the "getting back into the swing of things" means that to a certain extent we missed the swinging that is implied therein. That being said, no matter how many George of The Jungle moments there are in the attempting to figure out out our balance on the vine of life, we must remember that during the summer we were bored out of our minds (or a fair number of us were) and could not wait to come back to college. Others just need to get through the next couple of semesters, and they foresee something beneficial at the end of it that made them, to a certain degree, want to return and wave goodbye to whatever our lives are otherwise

We Enjoy It

There are very few things in this world that don't come down, somehow, to enjoyment for us as humans. Because we are among the few species that do things for fun, and because we have cognizance of that fun, regardless of how badly our feet move, we still enjoy the dance that is "the swing" of the things in our lives. Even if the particular thing doesn't give you pleasure, often its consequences do (Paying taxes sucks harder than a vacuum cleaner inside a pneumatic tube, but paved roads are nice, and work sometimes feels like a deeper pit than being at the bottom of a well in Tartarus without any light, but disposable income is fantastic).

We Keep Doing It

By the very nature of the word "back" in the saying 'getting back into the swing of things' it implies that we've done these things before, and anything that we've done before we can do again. Now, I realize that probably sounds a little patronizing, but it's true, short of something emotionally or physically stopping us, (Like a wall) we can, for the most part actually do anything that we've done before, and oftentimes we can get back in action and do it better, harder, faster, stronger, or in some other way more like Kanye or Daft Punk

Lastly, Just remember that you can do it, regardless of how hard it is, how much it feels like you are backtracking, or how much you think the grass is greener on the other side, remember that it's only because they use so much more bull fertilizer.

Sincerely,

Brad "Swing Away" Roberts

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
