When I was going into my sophomore year of college, I knew that I should look into getting a part-time job. I wasn't sure of what type of job I should get, but I knew that I needed the money and the commitment. Now after having my job for more than a month, I can say it has been one of the best decisions I have made at Ohio State so far. Here is why you should consider a job too:
1. Money
Obviously, any job or paid internship like mine involves money. The minimum requirement that you work as a part-time college student is 8 hours, and it is definitely manageable with a class schedule. The money is a great incentive, and working the job is a small cost when you have an income at school. Because college students blow through money real quick, I heard.
2. Commitment
One of the hardest parts for me about coming to school was not having a commitment to anything. I was used to having a sport to commit to or other activities but coming to school you start over and have to find new things to commit to. I am involved with a few clubs but getting a job, or "paid internship," this year has given me even more of a time commitment to something. Considering I do my best when I have multiple commitments, this has been great.
3. Experience
Having a job or an internship while also pursuing a degree is such a great way to build your resume and gain some experience along the way. For example, when I was pursuing a job for this school year I was concentrated on paid internships because I would make money and, more importantly, gain exposure in a field that will help me get further on my career path.
