Some people view writing as tedious. They think it's yet another task to be done for school. I'm actually shocked that so many of my peers think that writing is only useful for academic purposes, and they do not do any sort of writing outside of school or what is required within their job. Now, I do acknowledge that's one side of the spectrum, and I'm definitely on the other extreme end.
Personally, I've been writing since I learned how to, and I can't imagine a life without it. I write all the time, in a variety of styles and structures, whether it be through a blog, social media post, an article (go Odyssey!), creative prose, or journaling. However, even if you don't ever want to be a published author, a journalist, or something along those lines, it doesn't mean you shouldn't write. Here are some reasons why writing is beneficial!
1. You can create whatever you want
In a world that seems uncontrollable during many points in life, sometimes it can be refreshing to escape reality for a few hours. With just a pen and paper, you have the ability to create whatever you want - whether it be a new world, new people, or even a different reality where normal rules don't apply.
2. Writing is therapeutic and relaxing
Even if you never want to be a big name author or even share your work, writing for yourself is still an amazing thing to do. It can help you de-stress from a hectic day, and writing down how you feel or tracking your mood can be therapeutic and beneficial to becoming more in touch with your emotions and mental health. Lately, the new craze is bullet journaling. 10/10 recommend.
3. You can spread a message
Every person has a message, or some inner thoughts they want to share with the world. Writing gives us the opportunity to do this. Nowadays, your work has a way of reaching most of the population: through the internet. It provides so many platforms -blogs, articles, social media posts, message boards, or whatever other form you desire to write in.
