With every Mother's Day comes the dozens of social media "Happy Mother's Day!" posts. I'm guilty of it, and you may be guilty of it, too - using Mother's Day as an excuse to appreciate a mom more than usual. But your mom deserves to be treated like a queen every day, not just on Mother’s Day! This goes for all the biological moms, moms who’ve adopted their children, surrogate moms, step moms...heck, even dads who play both roles. If you’re waiting until Mother’s Day to treat your mom well, you have some bigger problems than not being able to decide which Hallmark card to get her. Here are some of the many reasons to show your mother just how much she means to you each and every day.
1. Your mom sacrifices the world for you.
Let’s not forget that she spent hours in the hospital going through excruciating pain just to get your sorry self delivered into this earth. And from that day on, she’ll cry with you, laugh with you, be proud of each and every one of your accomplishments and be there to pick you up when you fall down. Your mom devotes so much time and energy for you, and never complains. Naturally, she really deserves to be appreciated for it.
2. Your mom will be your biggest support system in all of your endeavors.
Face it: the woman who raised you doesn’t want to see you get hurt. Yet she’ll be the one to support you when you decide you want to pick up pee-wee football or soccer or whatever other crazy sport you want to play. For instance, my mom was the one who put me on the back of a thousand-pound animal and helped cultivate my love of animals. Your mom will be right by your side as you make your way through middle school, support you as you go through your first breakup (and each one after that), give you advice when you run into those “mean girls” in high school, help you navigate through college, and much, much more. Even if you don’t admit it to yourself or her, your mom is your rock in more ways than one.
3. Your mom will love you unconditionally.
As you go through this crazy “life” thing, making mistakes along the way, your mom will be there to love you no matter what. I can't tell you how many times I've been a bratty daughter or just generally difficult to deal with...yet my mom is always there, no matter what. She's there because she's been through it all and she wants to make me the best person I can possibly be.
So to my mother and to every other mother out there, happy Mother's Day - and remember that you should be treated just as well every other day of the year.
