Well, if you haven’t been living under a rock the past month, you’ve heard all the hype about the nationwide phenomena, The Greatest Showman, a movie inspired by the visionary, P.T. Barnum who founded Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1871.
Now, if your among the masses, you’ve bought a ticket to the theatre, you’ve seen The Greatest Showman, your skin has cleared, your heart is full, your soul is gleaming and your spirit is singing.
To say the movie took us for a ride is an understatement. We watched, we laughed, we cried, but most of all, we loved.
“Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for.”
Below are three reasons "The Greatest Showman" tugs at your heartstrings.
It’s inspirational storyline
This stellar storyline tells how the imagination of a lower class boy turned him into a worldwide sensation. Throughout his journey, we watch as he suffers from loss and having little, but also how he attains success and what “success” really means. Most of all though, it tells of a love that withstands all the uncertainty and risk.
It’s absolutely impossible not to fall in love with these characters and their genuineness. It’s a story that accepts differences and encourages them. In The Greatest Showman, what makes you unique is what makes you special. On every level, it’s a story about acceptance and ultimately inspires the audience to shoot for the stars as it taps into the unlikely’s unknown potential.
The entire movie appears dreamlike as it transports you somewhere magical, somewhere never before visited and to watch this movie is to leave the theatre inspired.
The cast
Ok, wait. Can we talk about how we were blessed with Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Zendaya all in the same movie, and on top of that, duets? God is real. I’ve never met anybody who discredited the talent or the perfect appearances of those three.
Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of P.T. Barnum is a showstopper. He probably could’ve done the whole show by himself, but we’re grateful for the rest of the cast. Jackman busted right out of the gates swinging in the opening scene’s song, The Greatest Show. It nearly punches the audience in the face, but, like in a good way.
The duet between him and Zac Efron is absolutely legendary. The Greatest Showman was Zac Efron’s first appearance in a musical since Disney’s High School Musical trilogy and his portrayal of Link in Hairspray… and boy are we glad he’s back- the sweet vocals of our generation's most beloved. Not to mention the chemistry he and Zendaya had. It was magical, all they did was glance at each other and everything was on fire. Also, how about the trust they had to have whilst flying around multiple feet in the air hanging on to a couple ropes. It's true, they did all their own stunts. Zendaya trained for a month for her part. I even heard that on set one day, Hugh Jackman called her “bad ass.” So, yeah. I’m just sayin’.
The soundtrack
Lie to me. Tell me that every song doesn’t touch your soul. This original soundtrack brought an entirely new element to the show. While there is some controversy with the music not fitting in with the time period, the musical geniuses actually had a very logical reason for modernizing the soundtrack that actually complimented the film extremely well. The writers said they didn't want the movie to feel like a period drama, so they asked themselves, "What would Barnum do now?"
Even if you are someone who isn't necessarily a fan of musicals, spend the money to see this one. If you go there to be entertained, you will not leave disappointed.
