3 Reasons to Join a Sorority

I didn't think I would join one, but now I'm really glad I did.

I didn't think I was the kind of person who belonged in a sorority. I didn't think I was someone who could join a sorority in college. Maybe I thought this way because all the movies I had seen that had sororities that had a lot of popular girls who were skinny and had money. I am neither of those.

But then you get to college and you realize it's totally different.

So here are my top three reasons you should join a sorority (or even a fraternity, since these can be turned towards guys too!).

1. SISTERS

It is literally like having a ton more sisters that you can suddenly do a ton of things with, talk about boys with, etc. It's a sisterhood, a bonding of different types of girls who come together under an idea of some sort that they all agree upon. Like in my sorority, we all like to do community service, as well as fundraising and sometimes party. The best part is that the 'older' sisters, the ones who convince you to join, are all really smart and will pass on their knowledge of things to you! Then you can convince new 'little' sisters to join and pass on your knowledge to them! It's great!

2. Help You Grow

Sororities are usually groups that are very diverse. Just full of girls who are all different in some way, shape, or form. You get a lot of different views on a lot of different things, learn about things that they're learning about as you talk with them, and you grow with them. You'll spend a good amount of time with these girls, doing things together as a sorority and then as friends as the bonds between you grow stronger. You'll help each other learn and grow through college, such as possibly becoming an even more outgoing person or joining a new club because one of the other girls is in it and encouraged you to, therefore helping you grow into a more diverse person yourself.

3. Support System

Everyone needs a good support system while they're in college and while for most of us we have family, sometimes that isn't good enough if you're miles away from them. Sure, you can give them a phone call, but there's just something about having the girls in your sorority being there for you and living maybe just a door down in the same dorm building. You become close with these girls, get comfortable with them and enjoy being with them. So if you're going through something, and you need a little support, they will definitely be there for you to hang on to, or to cry with. Sometimes just a smile or a hug from one of the girls can be the thing that makes your whole week better.

So, I love my sorority. I'm super glad that I made the decision to join, especially to join the one I did. I don't think I would have enjoyed college as much as I have or would have grown as I have if I didn't have them. It's an experience I think everyone should to try have, even if it's just for one year.

Shout out to the girls of Alpha Phi Sigma!

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
